    First time out with WMO

Beware coolant, rainwater, etc. in WMO. I've thinned it, put it through a few sock filters down to 1 micron (SLOW!) and burned plenty. But with the DOT # on the door of the dump-truck now I don't take the chance of an 'untaxed fuel' ticket and WMO only goes OUT of the A3, never IN!!

    PTO GENERATOR for any use

A Multifuel is a lot of engine to run for such a small generator. A small genset makes more sense to me. I've got a 3-53 pulling a 40kw head to run everything (several buildings, HVACs, well, etc) when needed if there is a crowd here and am about install an 016b for light duty if we don't need...

So you want to buy a cheap truck from GL?

@ Streamline: I've experienced some frustration getting on base to preview at Eglin AFB. Called before leaving and was told to just call when I got to the gate. Called within a few miles of the gate, was told to call when I got to the gate. Called when I got to the gate and suddenly the lil'...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

This week I'm in the the process of replacing: 1) Water pump before the fan goes through the radiator. 2) Radiator with leaky top tank and general funk both inside and out. 3) Winch I fragged a couple of years ago using a cheap bolt (that'll break before anything bad happens, right?) for a...

    Deuce Seating Position

At the risk of making some 'purists' mad I feel like my A3 seat is WAY more comfortable than the A2. Maybe it's back a little further, maybe it's the PS so there's no beating my left elbow against the door (bursitis is a bitch, especially when pounded on repeatedly turning an A2 around in the...

How to turn up a cat

@ Smokewagon: Sorry about your unit's luck but I love my A3! First thing I'd do is the above-mentioned air & fuel filters, then some diagnostics if it's still a dog. I had an ex chicken company FL120 Freightliner w/ a Cat turned up from 'idiot-proof' a few years back by Cat and computer time...

    Generator to house transfer switch.

My 40kw genset is hooked up through a 200A Cutler Hammer transfer switch. In the switch each 120v leg has it's own lug (obviously) and the ground lug is shared with the ground back to the meter base and to the main panel. I added another ground rod from that lug just to be sure, the local elec...

Winch Deuce on GL for $1100

@ acehigh: I don't have them 'brought to me', I haul with either a 12 ton gooseneck equipment trailer w/ electric winch or lowboy rig w/ big hydraulic winch, all safe and legal. Third trip, four hours prep and still not off base? Next trip to deal with failed brakes by bleeding the system w/ a...

Winch Deuce on GL for $1100

RANT WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS RANTING THAT MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR SELF ESTEEM!! :x I've bought 10-12 m35s and plenty of other govt. vehicles of all sorts over the years and trailered EVERY ONE of them because their condition for safe operation on the public roads cannot be verified in the...

    military earthmoving equipment owners?

Had several D-8 8R, 2U and 13A dozers, some w/ WWII Corps of Engineers rebuild tags, until scrap prices got so high last year so now they are gone... The running 2U was a good machine though that pony could be aggravating, I'd converted it to rear cable control for the blade years ago, the...

Aircraft tug pickup at Pensacola, FL 32508

I brought mine home from Eglin AFB on my gooseneck equipment trailer, used the electric winch to pull it up w/ no problem. It's as wide as a 1 ton basically, it'll fit on most trailers but maybe not 'utility' types if they have sides to them... They might weigh more than a regular pickup but I...

May have screwed the pooch with WMO

To quote all those old Caterpillar fuel caps "Buy clean fuel, keep fuel clean"!

May have screwed the pooch with WMO

Amen to the 'filter, filter, filter' mantra. I've run a lot of lubricants, from WMO to H32 hydraulic through a multi over the years and haven't had the failures forecast by some. I filter w/ coarse, 5 and then 1 micron sock type filters, a pain but then the fuels didn't cost anything either! I...

    Winches for loading

Because the most expensive but easily breakable thing on a trailer, regardless of size, is the landing gear. Start pushing/pulling vehicles up on unhooked trailers and you are begging to fold up the landing gear, jack, whatever. THEN you have a problem with the broken gear hanging down so you...

    Winches for loading

I've got an 8k Warn on my gooseneck trailer, hook a battery to it and it'll suck a deuce or other fairly big vehicle right up on it. Easily the best trailer mod I've ever done, had the 30 year old 'upright' style winch lying around so I was only out the fab time... That being said, I've loaded...

    Dangerous Trailer Loading

I'm sorry but even if they are down to hauling the 'Burb off for scrap to keep the family farm out of foreclosure they need to do it safely because there are innocents on the road too, like me and my kids! It's the eternal po' boys' lament that ''we ain't go no other way to haul it, 'sides, we...

picks of my 25,000 dollar humvee project

Wow, what a thread. Let the guy be for buying what he wants and spending what he did on it, seems like every time I buy something all my buddies THEN tell me about a better one their neighbor has that they want to basically give away to tidy up their place... That being said, I wish I had a buck...

    M35A2 Engine Question

Do some searching, there are many threads about the Multifuel perceptions, reality, etc. I don't like them, seems like every truck and engine I bought had a bad bottom end there for a while with mains not torqued right (finger-tight!!), oil pump idler gear broken off, just weird stuff but my...

    Pressurized Axles?

What a great idea. My old Landrover always seemed to get water in the axles when wading after some driving but not so much cold, I always wondered if the axles cooling off rapidly in the water created a vacuum that sucked the water past the seals. Eventually I just did away with the vent...
