Maybe because they were too hard to steer with manual steering ;) The trucks I pulled PS boxes off of had a smaller wheel than the M880, it was different style also so I've kept the orignal wheel in the one I converted. You get used to it.

putting an ORV tag on it satisfies registration requirements in many jurisdictions. Been there done that.

Need to find a used steering box from a 4x4 Ramcharger, W100, W200 W300 or W400. There is also a way to hack a pitman arm from a manual box onto the PS box but I wouldn't recommend going that route.

Typical GM steel wheel has a 4-3/4" center hole where the rear D60 on the Dodge requires a 4-7/8" hole. I have standard F-250 Ford 16" x 6" wheels on one of mine.

I do not see where having the OPTION to register as historic has any effect on regular registrations. The bill from a few years back that allowed for the plate not to be displayed on any MV that was kept to look as it was in the military did not adversely affect registering them with regular or...
