Well, I have the new engine in the truck, just an inch from being able to put in the motor mount bolts....
then I ran out of energy and sunlight.... and today, RAIN.... maybe tomorrow i'll get it lined up and get the transmission to slide into place.....
I took out the passenger seat, got the floor access covers off, took off the front of the short drive shaft, ordered my mechanical lift, should be here Friday by 9am...
Since I don't have the heads on (no lift points)... I'm just going to strap lift it best I can out of the hole.
I have NO interest or ties with this product,
Rim Guard® ... Beet Juice™
I was only sharing the information.... if you think i'm pulling your chain. Look it up.
Farmers have been using or trying new things for a LONG time.....
Since the invention of rubber agricultural tractor tires, farmers have been adding ballast to their tractors to maximize their pulling power and to optimize balance and stability. That ballast comes in two forms: iron weights and liquid-filled tires.
Liquid ballast comes in many forms. Most...
I'll bet someone has tried it...
I have no idea, but I did have my Kubota tires weighted with it, for traction, but wondered what it would do for balancing.
Just tossing it out there.
What about the stuff used to weight tractor tires...?
Beet juice.
has a freezing point of minus-30 degrees Fahrenheit....
it's NOT corrosive to the metal, and if spilled SO WHAT... there is no special "clean up" for it...
It looks like it comes with new clutch parts from pictures, but I hope its still in there.. the pictures are a few years old.
It may be a puddle of rust...
I'm still planning using a skytrack for the engine pull and leaving the trans hanging and slid back for a little clearance.
I'm starting to...
Thanks Blueduce. I've got a rebuild on its way (the whole engine). Its was freshened up in 92, so that should be tons of fun getting it in and running.
My front head was good, rear was new but I think the engine has been doomed for a while... its had several gasket jobs and new head and all...
Me and the wife did Anza Borrego in a jeep JK back in 08, that was the best wheeling trip ever EVER.
Has anyone ever run a deuce through there...? I don't think they would fit in the wet part....
To do that again, on 395s in an M35, with a bunch of other MVs, to camp for a couple days... would...
Did the comfy high back seat stay in the wrecker, or was that just to make the drive home a little better...?
It does look like everyone was working good together, wish I had a shop that big to fill with toys.
Thanks Doghead, I am looking forward to this evolution.
The physical part of the unloading the engine/crate, pulling the mostly bare block from the engine bay,
getting the clutch and pressure plate on the new motor and taking my time to lower that into its new home....
Getting that far, with...
Wow Jeepsinker, thank you so much for the offer...
I am still 3 weeks out from the swap, I'm planning my swap around the time of delivery of the engine, and I know it would be a logistic nightmare to get all the stars to line up for too much.
I'm ok with renting the skytrak and short boom...
I had not thought of using a chain fall from the bucket.... that would make it smooth.
I cant use a gantry crane with the truck parked in the dirt, and being on a little bit of a slope.
I even thought of making a small section of metal rail road track type set up, to roll a crane back and...
I talked to the rental place today about getting a lift (skytrak, telehandler type) to do my swap today, construction must be booming as they are hard to keep on the lot...
He (the sales person) suggested a John Deere 310 size 2wd backhoe?
I have ran 40hp and smaller backhoe's, skytracks and a...
I guess i'm just over thinking it all... looking for hang ups, show stoppers, tips and tricks...
I'm searching my tail off on "swaps, replacements" etc....
It's my first big engine swap.. it's sure no SB350.
So, the front motor mount (with the radiator support) is removed before the engine is lifted out of the engine bay...?
That's how i'm following the TM....
It is just unbolted from the sides and removed as one piece. I don't seem to be seeing that anywhere.
That would be better than a broom handle and electrical/duct tape.
I'm not too keen on universal tools... but there should be some tribal knowledge of something that fits.
Looking more like I'll split them in frame, now debating taking off fenders and winch even though I see swaps with gantry cranes with fenders and winch still in place.
On the clutch alignment tool, i'll see if Memphis or someone has one....
