I have an account with yellow freight (55% disc.) and Forward air (60% disc.) if I can help.
I just shipped a 350lb engine on a pallet for $130.00 across the country.
Oh - CFM is about the same, just a little higher for the cummins. It spins faster. The 35 fits well on the map for the deuce, centered on the 78% efficiency island... 40 slips to around70%
I can do a hx 40 for you if you want. I'm a little concerned that it would be out of its efficiency island. I'll look at the map again for it...
The cfm on the 35 is optimal for 10-15psi, and a little laggy for the 40.
Cost would be about $150 higher for those.
I'm looking to see if there is any interest in a turbo kit for the Deuce that I am currently building. Because it will be so easy to replicate, I'd be willing to put these kits together and offer them to the club, at a touch above cost.
Here's what is in it:
Holset HX35W Turbo, new.
Adjustable...
Not the same deal... I just paid for it this afternoon when I got home. By the way, I am still working on that other deal, so I'll have two or three to play with. I figure I can put two at my dad's house, let him drive one, and keep the others here until they get sold. The prices are so good...
I should have my deuce this weds! I'll get pics up for everyone.
I'm pretty sure it's a -1D, but could be wrong. The price was way right, and I couldn't pass it up - including the fact that the seller is paying for shipping!
IMO 925 is the way to go if you have the cash. GREAT cummins engine and automatic tranny, bulletproof airbrake system, gallon and 1/2 of torque! I'm in line for one if I don't have any more project "stuff" come up in a few months. It makes a great "pock-pock-pock-pock" sound when towing heavy...
Hey guys, I noticed today that the PCV vent tube that drops to the right side of the engine from the valvecovers is vented to the atmosphere on the truck I was looking at. Is that right, or is it missing a tube to go back into the intake or exhaust somewhere?
... Guess you didn't read my post about CFM requirements of the turbo and what the filter can flow.... LOL that's ok.
You're partially right; any outside cool air is a lot better than engine compartment air.
Elwenil,
I've got the SRT-4 too, all set for rally. Been a member of the SRTOC for a loooong time.
I agree - I'd NEVER use anything besides oil in my performance turbo engine!!! It is totally unknown what coking will take place on a non-water cooled turbo! those PTFE additives have been...
Me again, just had to do some basic math.
If the LDT engine has a volumetric efficiency (VE) of only 50% at 2600 rpm's, then it is only drawing 234 cfm through the air filter and into the turbo.
Roughly, if the engine had a VE of 70%, it would only draw 324 cfm.
Hope that helps with the...
... WHEW this is one hell of a hot topic.
I forgot to touch on EGT's:
If you want to keep them low, reduce intake resistance (it is already minimal from my math in the deuce, so no factor) OR increase the collection side of the turbo. Backpressure before the turbo (also called a "choke...
I just don't like the filtration rate of the K&N. Not rated well enough in particle size until the filter gets dirty... It also clogs real fast in dusty environments... If you never go off road, you'll probably never have to do anything with it for a couple of years.
Good news on your gauges...
I used to use K&N too. They don't match filtration levels until they start to become clogged, then they only have the filtration and flow rate of a similar paper filter.
The size of the filter is so large that flow over time is not really disturbed with light clogging. When it does get dusty...
