Yeah way better than stock not knowin what the heck is going on! I've got a pyrometer on the left, water temp and tach (white) right top, and oil and the military volt gauge on bottom right. Someday I'll get better gauges when I make my own dash.
Here is my write up of my 4L80E swap. Go with the low rpm diesel converter. It is the one that is supposed to go with this low rpm motor. I used the TCI controller. It is highly programmable and I only made a small few changes to the base programming that it came up with for the power and...
Today I finished the outside wall and tested it for leaks. It was easier to bend after I bolted it to a large 1/2" steel plate and used lots of heat. The bolt heads will have to be ground down to clear the bottom of the bowl.
I do have parking brakes still. I used the rear calipers off of a 76-78 Cadillac Eldorado. Then you either have to make or buy a bracket to connect the end of the current parking brake cable to the bracket. It works like a screw; when the cable is pulled it turns the screw inside the caliper...
That's a great deal you got then! They are a little pricy brand new. I'll have to check on unity's web site again and if I still cant find it I'll call em up to get a part number. I helped a budy get one for his 96 Tahoe by looking up the part number on their website... I saw an old mid 80's...
Here is what I got done today. Got the spacer ring for the motor and welded it to the bottom plate. Bent the inner oil ring into a circle and welded it to the plate, and started bending the outside wall. It being 10" tall, it is a little harder to bend than I expected. Ha ha... I heat it up and...
I've been meaning to put one on since I bought the truck! The ones on my ex-sheriff dept Caprice are great! Super bright and they come in handy when it's really dark. It would get even more use on the truck!
So is this one that you got specifically for the Chevy truck, or is it a generic one...
Good stuff! Yeah even being in CA, sitting outside inop for 10+ years created a lot of rust. The t-tops didn't have a very watertight seal. It's one of my many projects! I love my Corvette!
:ditto:
It's always good to start with something that hasn't been butchered.
Speaking of the birdcage, I have to go through my 75 and fix all the rust it has developed over the years. And all the hairline cracks in the fiberglass. I wish my dad would've taken better care of it when it was his!...
Electrical is always a big issue. People already don't know how to work...
I had the same problem with mine. The issue was the shift fork in the transfer case. The fork has two nylon tabs that are the wear surface. When these tabs wear away the transfer case will pop out of gear. I had the t-case rebuilt when I installed the 4L80E transmission and the nylon tabs were...
The motor is a 3450 rpm motor. I was thinking of using a steel pot or something, but I had this round plate that was begging to be used for something. And I really enjoy doing fab work, so win win. Ha ha.
The rotor holds quite a bit of oil, and it will be able to clean oil at a higher rate...
After doing some research off and on for the last few years, I finally decided to start my WMO adventures. I ordered a centrifuge bowl from simple centrifuge and a Baldor motor to get started.
For the bottom base plate I used a 12" round, 1/4" thick plate that has been sitting in the garage...
Began building a centrifuge today. I guess it's more doing something for my CUCV than to it. But still CUCV related. Ha ha.
Edit: I'm going I start a build thread in the alternative fuels section if anyone is interested in checking it out or building one of their own.
Thank you sir. Your truck looks awesome too! Yeah, I know what you mean. I have a lot on my list that have been put off for too long. Like the 24v winch that has been sitting in my garage for almost a year. And a lighter receptacle so I can do things like charge my phone on trips that has been...
