I was so tempted to buy two sets of those trays at Aberdeen one for the duece and one set for the M52 but I knew I was leaving for Korea and did not want them lost by home re-arrangers while I was away. I will look into them when I get home. This truck is one I must see before I die, kinda...
Welcome to the membership. Good buy on the trailer and hope you have fun with it. I just posted a picture on the do you think this will work thread of what I did to my M105 to tow it behind a 3/4 ton Travelall. I would have put a surge brake on it back then but time was precious and I did not...
Chris:
When Christian was very young I got him the smallest ball peen hammer that Snap on makes and a few other really small tools and made him a tool bench with a vise and other neat things on it. He and his brother used them and grew up motor heads
It may seem strange but on my taigate rack I built a truss system underneath that went to each corner and then to a kingpost at the insert as close to the hitch as I could get it and still get the pin in the hole. If you built a horziontal bar underneath and then A framed it up to the top it...
RE: You know...
I have used a few 5,000 pound staps as a poor mans winch more than once. If you have a place to hook to you can tow the truck up onto the trailer and hook one on the rear to act as a stopper. This is a long and arguous task so I hope some of our Texas Steel Soldiers will help...
When I build my McGyver things like that I usually try to build in another brace that takes the farthest out point to the base of the hitch as close as possible to the point where the hitch exits the reciever. In this case I would weld another piece of angle or tube from the top of your project...
The 916-20 series in our sister company the 642 Engineers were much slower. Since they were equipt with the driving front axle. But all the early 91X serires trucks that had the CAT airshift had a better top end if the Cummins was tuned and running strong. 16th gear could really get them going...
My 6602 is begging me to come home and drive it just to suck down my pay. I know my truck coming up from Virginia was choking my Son and his fiancee in the chase car so they fell back and the fuel I used was somewhere near what you did per mile. Just not use to this and would like to find a...
That and the legal ramifications of an Army truck operating in a SOFA area on the host countries roads almost mandated the installation on the trucks pulling loads on the highways or autobahns on a regular basis. One the 915 16 speed trucks in Germany it was common to have 16th gear locked out...
Mike:
Again I must say thanks and now with emphasis after seeing what you do for Soldiers. I know from experience a cook with a bad attitude can ruin a hot dog. I am in the middle of lots of training and the Reserve Soldiers that came in for it in my Movement section are doing a great job. I...
Welcome back Brother in arms:
I hope all works out. I found I liked ours better on 33X 12.50 tires and with tinted rear windows. I broke our drivers window slamming the door with the window down. had to put in one from a junk K5 I found.
Wow that is great a really nice collection. I see you were helping to build up some current day Soldiers too from the Solders in the back round. thanks for supporting them and welcom to the site it may just be where you spend most of your time on the web like most of us.
God bless
Welcome to Steel Soldiers that is a good looking Suburban you have there. How far are you from the Maryland line? There are lots of great threads to read on all types of military vehicles so I hope you have time to come back time after time like many of us do. My Alternator was doing some...
By the tag date it may have been one I saw over there. The Guard and Reserve units that had vehicles over there shipped them back because the Army was not going to reimburse the unit for vehicles not needed for missions. Thus they brought back M35 and M800 series trucks and once home the unit...
I got some complaints from neigbors too but I have it registered and insured so too bad look the other way it is my property and not illegal. The county even came out to look and when they saw the plates were current they just liked looking at the truck. That neigbor has since passed away and...
I still have some of my 1st Gulf war Iraqi captured stuff too. but I was not able to bring a trailer home with me. I did get some great 5 gallon cans I think came out of Japan that still hold diesel to this day.
I will have to see if my Sons will be headed up in the M1009. I really dont have the duece ready for them to drive because it is storing most of my daily use tools that no one else in the family knows how to use while I am in Korea. I am pretty busy here could you post the dates for me to pass...
Looks like this will be a very nice show and time to get together. I am a bit too far away at present but the 3rd annual one might be good if I wind up retireing in July 08
