gassers had the spicer 3052 5spd. starts at about the same 1st of ~6:1 but ends in direct 1:1 - no OD because it winds up higher.
because of this, supposedly the performance of the gasser/3052 is about the same as the MF/3053 on diesel. but, when it's not on diesel, you're right - the gasser...
look at it this way: the deuces and 809 5 tons lead a hard life to say the least. with a road network so bad that most would be considered trails at best, imagine putting 10,000 offroad miles on your truck.
compared to present day: i ran a DS maintenance company out of Ft. Stewart recently. i...
i recommend the PSC hydro kit - it even makes turning my 16.00-20s easy (and you can get rid of the gigantor steering wheel). and if you use the 5 ton pump (bolt on) it will be that much easier to install. there are pics in my album of how Jim installed the steering cylinder.
Chuck, i agree with everything you said here. people keep asking about reliability and what it will take to get more of it and more power output. those 4 things you mentioned are at the top of the [long] list of design obstacles that is keeping the multi (in its current form) limited in...
that's interesting, Jones, that you went to 12V. since i am planning to do a 5.9 cummins swap, i was on the same fence. but i actually just picked up my spare starter yesterday: i took it to my local starter shop and they rebuilt the cummins starter to 24V. i thought about the fuel shut off...
wow, there's so many errors in this post....
that is completely bogus!!! since Tq=(hp x 5252)/RPM, then RPM=(hp x 5252)/Tq. do the math and 30 hp with 1000ft-lbs crosses at 157 RPM. you need to show me a motor that will operate like that.
no, it is still categorized as a diesel motor...
you got some info on these selectable lockers you keep talking about? because the only selectable lockers known for the deuce are 1) the norweigan deuces that require a lot of specialized parts and 2) ARB RD145 which have only been in existance for less than 2 years.
otherwise, i'm reaching...
i wouldn't just mount the transmission to the transfer w/ just a u-joint. that won't allow for any movement between the engine/trans and transfer and you are just asking to wear bearings and potentially crack someone's housing.
you need a jack shaft (short drive shaft) of some sort to allow...
they are still limited slip differentials (LSDs). there is no such product as "posi-traction" - it is the brand name given to a limited slip.
you ever taken one apart? because what your describing doesn't exist in my Ford Dana 80 rear diff with OEM LSD.
you are right, though - there are...
i'm with you - i understand how limited slips work and how they are different from lockers. i also understand that the term 'posi-' is a brand name much like 'velcro' is a brand name for "hook and loop fasteners". but most people think 'velcro' is a product, just like many GM fans believe...
