    Timing & Temperature

Don't mess with the timing. The multifuels are very efficient engines and use less than 1/2 gallon per hour at idle. They won't heat up unless you run them hard. Full winter front is good, I use a custom radiator cover all year to keep the temp up (pictures elsewhere on this forum)...

Alternative fuels for diesel: impact on emissions?

RE: Re: RE: alternative fuels Adam, check out greasecar.com forum for lots of info on running the old mercedeses on filtered WVO.

    NDCC tire siping

That's just it GB, I haven't found a good explanation for the action of the sipes. When the siping "opens up" under the pressure, it kind of displaces the water without actually letting it out. The siping also lets the tire conform to the surface better, it's supposed to make a big difference on...

Alternative fuels for diesel: impact on emissions?

RE: alternative fuels Not really Rizzo, only spend a couple of hours a week doing it. BUT, I say this, people who collect grease from rendering dumpsters parked behind the restaurants are in for a messy task de-watering and filtering the contaminated WVO. Just pumping it out is a job. Anybody...

Alternative fuels for diesel: impact on emissions?

RE: alternative fuels Actually, we just got a '83 240D Mercedes plus a parts car just like it. it will be for my daughter....and the idea is to run it on Bio.

    NDCC tire siping

All things considered, I'll go with my original pattern, but with more cuts. Looked at a number of tire patents and it looks like there is still a lot of trial and error in this department. The original ones, 2,124,986 (Pipes) and 2,206,860 (Sperry) from the 1930-40's, are for shoes. I have some...

Alternative fuels for diesel: impact on emissions?

RE: alternative fuel choices for diesel....opinions Here is what a couple of guys on the greasecar forum think about burning used motor oil (I don't necessarily share their opinions, but it's food for thought): "Hey Grease Sheik, Why bother burning the shit just bring it to a auto shop. You...

    NDCC tire siping

Hmm..that's totally different from what I drew up. Length wise? Better do my homework on this one. Thanks again Rizzo.

    NDCC tire siping

Thanks for the input Rizzo, I'll modify the pattern tomorrow.

    NDCC tire siping

To improve wet pavement traction, I intend to sipe my next set of tires. The pattern I think will work is shown in image #1 below (drawn with white marker) and the siping tool is shown in image #2. The cuts will be 1/4 inch deep and made with the blade installed in the tool, kinda like an exacto...

    leaking axle seal repair

Oh man, that drive way will never be the same, my little oil spill must be invisible by now. :-) The socket I use is a KD2445 model (3" octagonal w/ 3/4" drive you may need a reducer), about $35 and you should also invest in a torque wrench while you'r at it. To handle globs of grease, I like...

    24v to 12v trailer adapter.

Yeah, Lee, LED's the way to go, brighter, less power, faster response time and little chance of overloading the 3-lever light switch.

Spin on fliters... time to do some trading!!

Gotcha, the NAPA 3418 filter/separator. MATT's images didn't show any drain.

CCAT, this is how it's done here (image below). Kenneth, glad you found a supply, that's how it all starts. :-)

Spin on fliters... time to do some trading!!

The primary fuel filter on the deuce is a combination water separator/fuel filter. I'm curious how that's handled by the spin-on version. I don't see any drain. My primary fuel filter element is also cleanable. Last time it started to clog up, I just wiped the element off and reinstalled it. It...

    2 output shaft PTO

After my visit to Wayne Harris in GA a couple of weeks ago, I have ended up with, possibly the most useless piece of MV surplus, an M88 recovery vehicle 60K lb hydraulic winch level winder. I erroneously thought it may have been a very big hydraulic motor. aua Anyway here it is, the polished...

    New M37 owner

Congrats on your M37! We live "down the road" some, near MM177 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, just a few hour's drive from you (Front Royal is MM1, I think). I have checked it and it's okay to drive these vehicles on the parkway. My son has an M37, perhaps one day you guys can compare notes. For...

    24v to 12v trailer adapter.

Good job Dennis! These regulators have built-in over current protection and will shut down in case of a short circuit. You have to consider the cold filament inrush current when working with incandescent light bulbs, it could be as much as 10 times the operating current. Possibly 10 to 15 amps...

    Engine horsepower calculation

Lee, the interstate grades are probably all listed somewhere, just go ogling it. If you need an inclinometer like the one shown below go to westmarine.com, about $20....
