That sketch will work fine. The only down side is that you're going to have to build a "dog house" in the front of your bed. It's not really a problem but if you're going for the stock look you're going to have that dog house sticking up.
I haven't ever used a belt drive pump. I do know that...
I was just giving him more options and those were the only threads that came to mind at the moment.
Yes, I had forgot about GT's single cylinder dump. Gringeltaube is pretty much the authority on dump conversions (among other things). Most of the design on the dump on my truck is his.
Or http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/60514-my-latest-dump-project.html?highlight=dump or http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/50583-started-my-dump-conversion.html?highlight=dump
I like to run about 100' or so of cable. 1) it gets you down closer to the drum for more power and 2) It doesn't pile up as bad if you're pulling at a little bit of angle and bust the case that way.
You can always use chain or chokers to make up some extra length if needed.
2024. There, it's posted.
Actually, this and just about all you ever wanted to know about shear pins is in this thread. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/7948-winch-shear-pins.html?highlight=winch
I thought about putting a hoist on my truck like what is in your drawing. I ran into the same problems you are. There's just not much room to hang down below the frame with all the crossmembers and the tandem axles. I ended up going with a scissor hoist that fit between the bed and frame. Looks...
If you go to do mobile work every once in a while and not traveling too far, I think the truck would work fine. They really shine off-road.
I regularly use my M715 on my farm working and I couldn't imagine asking a civilain truck to do the same job and hold up. It will go to town every couple...
I've installed dumps on two deuces. The bed frame is fairly light for a dump bed. On my truck I added a 2X2X1/4" square tube to the bottom of the rails just to make sure (It is a dropside though).
I'm not so sure I like your hoist idea. As has already been said, with the cylinders mounted on...
:ditto:
This is what I do. More times than not you ruin the old gaskets when you take the winch apart. You also sometimes have to add more than one thickness to get the bearing preload right.
I've got a M715 and would love to trade it for a M724.
My truck still has the original 230 in it. The engine does have it's problems but I can't seem to kill mine. It just keeps plugging along. Engine swaps for a GM smallblock (or similar) are common and fairly easy.
I guess it all depends...
As cheap a good M105s go for, I wouldn't bother with this one. I believe I would just use this one for parts or use it as a trailer to pull behind your bobber. It still looks good enough to haul a load of wood or whatnot.
You can use radial tubes in bias tires but you can't run bias tubes in radial tires. That is why they only make radial tubes anymore, they will work in either tire.
The only way you can go tubeless is to change wheels. While 22.5 tubeless wheels with the deuce bolt pattern aren't the norm...
Buying from GL can really scare the heck out of you the first time. After you get one or two under your belt you'll get the hang of how things work and it will be fairly smooth.
I'm not saying you won't run into problems though. GL can be very hard to deal with at times but after you learn...
That would work but I also want to run it on 12v, as stated in my original post.
After reading the responses here and elsewhere on the internet I've found out that people that know about electric motors say it won't work long but I've also heard of serveral people that have done it without...
DH, Yes I've seen many mistakes in the TMs but this pic is different. That frontend is definitely a M44 series truck and I would assume that figure was derived from a actual photo. Now you can argue that it may have been a prototype but I can't help but believe that there wasn't atleast one of...
I've thought about installing a 12v battery to run the winch but a good sized winch will drain a 12v battery pretty quick in a hard pull.
At 24v will the winch accually draw more current? According to the link Gimpy posted, the motor will run on 1/2 of the current on 24v (if I understood it...
