    How to preserve tarp cover

The main thing I've noticed that gives up on these covers is the stitching. The stitching will rot and although the vinyl is still good, the cover will fall apart at the seams. What I do is keep the covers folded up and in the dry and only use them when I'm accually covering up some cargo in the...

    Why 2650rpm max?

Is this a M35A2 you're talking about? If so, nopics I'm just curious how you shoehorned a intercooler in there.

    My latest dump project

Here's some more pics. One of the pics shows the dump control knob mounted to the dash. Another pic shows the extended PTO shift lever I put in. My uncle who owns this truck has had a mild stroke and is a little weak on his right side. I made the lever longer and installed a softer spring in the...

Can I use an XM1061E1 trailer to haul a vehicle?

The main problem with the weight is the deuce is rated for only 10K towed load. That leaves you with only around 4.5K cargo cap. Now we all know a deuce can tow more than 10K (how safe it is, is up for debate) but it's going to be slow and I wouldn't want to go far or do it very often.

Can I use an XM1061E1 trailer to haul a vehicle?

I've thought about one of those trailers also. I've finally come to the conclusion that they just aren't practical though. IMO they are way too heavy for no bigger than they are. The deck height is awfully high also. With all that being said, if you don't mind all of the things mentioned they...

    M35 bed thickness

That's one heavy floor. I can't think of a reason to have a floor that thick in a cargo truck. A dumptruck maybe. Troop or cargo protection from IEDs? I tend to think this was added to the truck and didn't come that way from the factory.

    Transfer Case PTO

I've seen both a deuce and a 5-ton t-case PTO. I will say that the outward appearance looks like they would interchange but they are different. The only 5-ton PTO I've seen was on a M62 wrecker. That PTO (as mentioned above) isn't shiftable. I don't know what 5-tons (if any) has a shiftable...

Turning up fuel on a non turbo?

On a turbo diesel, when you turn the fuel up you also increase the air going into the engine (to a point). Without a turbo, when you turn up the fuel you add fuel but you've still got the same amount of air going into the engine. The engine can't burn the extra fuel because there's not enough...

    Why 2650rpm max?

The old Cummins will throw a rod also if you run it too fast. ;) Short stroke gas engines will usually just float the valves if ran past redline. Almost all long stroke diesels will reward you with a thrown rod if you push her too hard. It's not just a problem with multifuels. As with...

    GL-1 Gear Oil Alternative

What's wrong with GL-1? It's worked in these trucks for 50+ years without problems. 1) It's cheaper than GL-5 2) It's what the manual calls for 3) I'm not aware of a problem with running GL-1 in these trans.

    Why 2650rpm max?

I'm not disagreeing on which stroke the rod breaks on but I've got to ask, how in the world can you tell what stroke it was on when the rod let go? I've never seen a engine throw a rod and stop dead in it's tracks. The mutifuel is a pretty high rpm engine for it's size and the era in which it...

Yea, just hook onto the other one and head out. :D

Syn gear oil in a 3053A

Y'all can play with whatever oil you like in the deuce trans. Myself, I'm going to stick with what's been run in these trans for the last 50 years. GL-1.

    Underdrive Pulleys?

I really don't even think an electric fan would make enough difference to matter. On big heavy diesel engines, your're just not going to notice anything. On hotrods, a fraction of a hp could mean the difference in winning and loosing going down the strip (where times are measured in fractions of...

    Found a M62

The guy that's got the truck only sees pounds (he's a scraper). You could get the whole truck for current scrap price if anybody wants it. By my math (at current prices) that would be around $3K . That's way too much as a whole but he's willing to deal with parts. Another down side is...

    Mods to do...

My 101a2 tows fine as is behind my 3/4 ton Dodge. I don't understand why you say you want to go to a "more standard" wheel. They are 8 lug GM wheels, pretty standard. I think you can lower the ride height by moving the springs under the axle. There's not much you can do to loose weight that...

    Found a M62

I plan on going back out there and get a few things before it gets scraped. I can grab the tensioner, lights and other parts. Fuzzy, the I've already sold the cluster. It's the one you and I have already talked about. Jeff, the spade sockets are already spoken for if they are still there ( I...

    My latest dump project

This truck was accually built for my uncle's construction business. This was alot easier conversion than my truck (a m35a2c dump with original bed) because it had a subframe that the hoist and the hinge was already made in to. The bed was basicly just set on there, welded some angles to the...

    Found a M62

I have ran across this old M62 wrecker that's not too far from me. The guy that owns it is selling whatever parts I want to pull. I have already pulled some parts off it and what's left is going to end up on a slow boat to China. I thought I'd post this up because if you see something you can't...
