I would get it running. worst case if the engine is bad you can get one complete for $300 or less. I would pull the heads and make sure nother got in the cylinders, then new gaskets and you'll be all set. I have two spare engines and can sell you any parts that you might need for a good price.

Is this CUCV book really worth this?

I wouldn't pay more than $30 for that book. you can get all of the manuals in electronic version here on the site for FREE!!!!! look under the Tech Manual section on the left of the page.

The 1028 have POSI in the front and the gov-lok in the rear. it also has a np205 transfer case (gear to gear) instead of the np208 that other cucv's have (chain driven) I would keep that one.

    Glow Plug Tech Article

the 6v plug rating is for "fast heat" plugs. meaning that you are giving them 12v so they will heat up very fast. also not the best for longevity of the plugs since they are getting shocked with double the voltage that they are meant for. go with the Wellman 070 plugs, as they are self-limiting...

CUCV manual glow plug switch install issue

re: the manual switch. all you need to do is take the blue wire that plugs into the glow plug controller harness (under the dash by the brake pedal) and run it to a button switch, then ground the other side of the switch. If you do it this way then the wait light will still come on as normal. PM...

question on the (12 bolt) 8-lug rims?

I ended up going with the pellets, the .20gram ones to be exact. used 15oz per tire. I can tell that two of the tires will need a little more weight (they still have a slight shimmy) overall they have worked great. I didnt even notice the difference once I put the washers on, so either I got...
