I've removed them in other trucks by filling the cavity with grease and finding a rod that fits the bearing. Drive on the rod and the grease will push it out. Old shadetree fix .
Fastenal does have stuff that can't be found locally somewhere else and that's about the only time I deal with them. They have some high quality stuff but it's overpriced compaired to what you can find elsewhere. They also have some not so good stuff (most of the fastenal branded tools).
I understand what you're getting at but sometimes problems may need to be talked about. For instance, if you bought a truck and on the way home the driveshaft fell out and I read that it had happened to you I'd think " the next time I drive a truck home I need to double check the driveshaft so I...
If the data plate is correct (they are sometimes wrong) it is a '71. '71 is right in a trasition year so it could be a General Products Division or a Kaiser Jeep. I don't think there were any AM General trucks in '71 but I could be wrong. I've got a '71 GPD truck. I would also check the frame...
:ditto:
I've bought several good trucks for under a grand. I'll have to say that since the supply has been going down there dosen't seem to be too many $1,000 trucks lately though.
I've been told by several bolt people that Cat bolts are stonger than grade 8. They are tough as nails but they are pricey.
NEIOWA, I'm not doubting that bolts from China may not hold up but I can't belive that there isn't legal ramifications for taking a grade 3 bolt and stamping it grade 8.
If this is true I'd think that would be illegal and could set them up for a big lawsuit if somebody got hurt when one of the bolts break. I would think TSC would have more sense than that.
:ditto:
What kills me is when junk trucks bring more than good trucks at the same auction and same location. I bought a M35A2C one time at Smyrna,TN NG for $1,000. It was a great truck with no rust, good runner, and cargo cover. Most trucks went for around $1,200 to $1,400 that day. I was...
Yes, he's talking about frameless dumps. A frame type dump would have to piviot front to back but you'd still want to lock it out from going side to side.
Greg, I think you have more than a habit. I think you have a full blown addiction. I think maybe we should schedule an intervention. No wait, that won't work. It would be like a bunch of pot heads trying to tell a drug addict to quit :-D.
We kind of sound like a drug dealer anyway when a...
Guess it depends on what kind of accident you have. I should do pretty good getting hit by another vehicle just because of shear size. The drawbacks are no rollover protection, no colapsable steering column, and single circuit brakes. I would think a CUCV would have a better "all around" safety...
Sounds like you're trying to do what all of us has done at one time or another. Your trying to rationalize buying a duece. If it will make you feel better I'll go ahead and agree with you . They are fun as heck and very capable but are far from the safest vehicle on the road when it comes...
This is something to think about. Dump trailers are bad about turning over anyway if you aren't dumping on level ground or material sticks on one side. The way a 5-ton 5th wheel is made is going to compound the problem.
If you're looking at a duece partly because you think they are somehow safer on the road than other vehicles look somewhere else. They aren't a "death trap" by any means but they don't offer much in the way of driver safety especially in a rollover.
When you get the axle mounted get a measurement from center of yoke on the t-case to center of yoke on the axle. Take your driveshaft to Clineards (sp?) Driveshaft in Nashville and give them that measurement. They will fix you up. If you need their phone number let me know. I think I have it...
Who is the Zelison company? I'm pretty sure the trucks in the brochure arn't new. They are just refurbished old M35 gassers. It list the axles as Timken. Rockwell had bought out the Timken axles sometime in the '50s so it would have to be an older truck than a 1970 model.
