I never have GPS tested my deuce but the speedo and tach seem to match the data plate and TMs. Don't really know what top speed is but I assumed it was 56mph like the TMs and data plate says. I think 55 MPH (according to the speedo) is as fast as I've ever pushed it. I try and run between 45-50...
I saw this thread as soon as you posted it and thought you'd have more volunteers than you knew what to do with so I didn't post. Well it's been up a while with no responses so I'll go ahead and offer my help for anything that is needed.
I haven't swapped a 5-ton but I've done a couple of deuces. Should be close to the same other than more weight. The Cummins is heavy. The duece swap is about the easiest swap I've ever done but you have to have some heavy rigging.
If the truck is that good that's not a bad price. By the time you buy a truck from GL, do all the work to it you said, and add a warranty I could see having close to that much in a truck.
It was ruined before he got ahold of it. Best I remember someone had installed a hardtop off of some sort of old IH truck before he got it. I remember him talking about how good of job they did. You could hardly tell it.
I've got a frame that I thought about doing this to. I've sold the axles so I had the same idea wreckerman had about using M105 axles. The only reason I haven't done it is that I really couldn't figure what I'd need it for. After seeing Kenny's post it gives me some ideas :-D.
They accually tow better than most civilain trailers I've pulled. I've towed several with my 3/4 ton Dodge and you don't even know it's back there.
The M105 ring fits tight into a standard TSC hitch but it will fit. No need to fool with flipping the lunette or worry about an extra tall hitch...
I could have sworn he mentioned towing their new project. I think I'll try and catch it again tomorrow to make sure. It kind of caught me off guard because a deuce was the last thing I expected to see.
I've searched but couldn't find an answer to this.
I started to take apart one of my winches today for a rebuild. I have removed the shift end, drum, brake band, and brake drum. It seems the bull gear wants to come off but can't because of the worm and it looks like the worm won't come out...
From the pic in your avatar you need several parts :-D.
I wonder if someone could contact the show and see if they would trade it for a plain old M35A2?
I wondered if that was what it was but I didn't get a real good look at it. I guarantee you they are going to chop it up. It's not called Extreme 4X4 for nothing. I'll bet $50 they bob it.
They film not far from me (right ouside of Nashville).
I was just watching an episode of Xtreme 4X4. At the end they showed a "sneak peak" of an upcomming project for just a second. It was a deuce with what looked like some sort of utility bed on it. They just showed one seen for just a second so I couldn't get a real good look at it. Wonder what...
:ditto:
I always factor in the cost of recovery when I bid. I have hauled all the trucks I have got partly because I have the means to do so and also because you never can tell what could happen on a 40 year old truck that you know almost nothing about. Nothing wrong with driving them home...
