I've read that somewhere. It didn't say not to do it but only do it for short periods. Thought it was the -10 but I could be wrong. You can power out cable but it is hard on the brake. When you power out the driveshaft is trying to pay the cable out and the brake is trying to stop it. You're...
I've built a couple of towbars and am thinking of maybe selling them. Your welcome to just borrow one to see how you like it but I don't know how I'd get it to you.
Here is a thread I started many moons ago about the subject steering kuckle grease.
http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/19590-steering-knuckle-grease.html?highlight=steering+knuckle+grease
I agree that the u-joint won't get any lube form the external grease. I've replaced several and just grease them good through the fitting and let it go. What concerns me about running the knuckles dry is where the thrust washer runs aginst the seal retainer.
I'm not disagreeing with you and Tom (you could be right ) but I'm still on the fence. Why does the military use grease on the u-joint knuckles if it's not needed? I've never torn a frontend down on any truck straight from GL that didn't have grease in the knuckles. If you use your line of...
I should have said "sold for scrap". Yes, he's pulling in out of the scrap hopper. He's not stealing it. They let him have it for scrap price.
He said they had 10 full big spools with wire on them as big as your arm awhile back. The spools had been sitting outside for a long time and the wood...
If you know somebody that works for your local power company, check with them. Power companies throw away massive amounts of wire. I've got a freind that works for the local power company and can get me just about any wire I want for scrap price.
Are you thinking of making a "West Coast turnaround" Gimpy :-D?
That's what the OTR truckers call it when you get hoped up on pills and drive all the way to the West Coast and back without stopping for sleep.
If you were closer me and you would have to talk :-D. If I were you I'd make her an offer for all of it for one lump sum. That's what I'd do if it wasn't so far away. If she just wants scrap price or a little more you should be able to make a little money for your time and be able to save some...
John, I've got some small air cylinders that may work. Maybe you could fab up a bracket to attach it to the shift rod . I've checked and have came to the same conclusion you have. Chelsea did make one ( my pto dealer shows it in his parts book) but the gear sets are no longer available.
I'm pretty sure the 3052 and the 3053 take the exact same PTO. I know nothing about a 3152 or a 3153 or what they go in. If you meant 3052 and 3053 a 3052 is direct drive in 5th and came out of a gasser truck and a 3053 is overdrive in 5th and came out of a multifuel truck. Both have the sprag...
I was just going by research I was doing looking for PTOs and other trans parts in the civilain world. Most places that sell civilain trans parts would have info on the 3052 but have never heard of a 3053. That led me to belive that there was a civilain 3052 because it was listed in a civilain...
This is a very old debate . Some say use grease and some say don't. Some say to use grease to lube the thrust bearing. I don't know who is right but I figured the grease couldn't hurt anything (other than making it messy the next time I'm in there) so I added the grease.
If you can find one to fit. Chelsea made one but has been discontinued for several years. From what I've found out is there were very few 3052 civilain transmissions built and no 3053s on the civilain market. So the bottom line is there are very few used civilain PTOs around and they can't be...
It would be easier and maybe cheaper but it wouldn't perform as well. Electric pumps tend to be very slow compared to PTO pumps. Some people have went electric and like it though.
