Best way is to ask him what the bumper numbers would be or to get the unit he was in. In some cases you need to know all the way down to the section level.
For example:
Passenger side front Drivers side front
28 1-110 IN...
That's too old for my database but...
The passenger side front should match the drivers side rear for bumper markings. Likewise the passenger side rear should match the drivers side front. You have partials enough to uncover the unit. The tailgate number is probably a registration number if...
Just returned from the auto body shop working on my 1009. That truck sure looks SCHWEEEET. They have all of the dents pulled out, all rust spots ground down, and fixed the passenger door and tailgate window. I should have it around Turkey Day. It will definately be a good Thanksgiving...
I lucked out and obtained a VIC-1 system that I was wanting to install in my 1009.
Do I need the MX-7777 when using the VIC-1 within the M-1009? What are the benefits versus not installing one?

You hit it on the head emmado.
It may have been used for range maintenance, in support of training (the draw yard), a trash truck, the dreaded P-HA truck, an OPFOR vehicle, or just about anything else on base.
I did three rotations to JRTC. It ain't fun. Most of the stuff units bring but...

Your truck was last assigned to the Directorate of Logistics, Installation Management Command, Fort Polk, LA. It could have been used by the JRTC folks, they tend to use a lot of the older vehicles in role playing.
Hope that helps.
Welcome to the 1009 world. I had rust in the rocker panel and toe board myself and ordered most of a floor system from LMC truck. I don't have the means to weld so I had to pay. I've put in just under a grand in parts and labor.
Mine is coming out of the paint/body shop within the next two...
I've seen several items lately about steering/suspension issues. Wanted to relate an issue and how I fixed it.
My 1009 went from one side of the road to the other although the steering wheel was kept basically straight. I found myself constantly correcting this sway.
To diagnos the problem...
Welome to the CUCV club! My suggestion is to get the technical manuals. I've found them to be very helpful in troubleshooting (-20 and -34) and for looking up parts (-20P and -34P).
They have the TM's posted on this website. Helped me redo the suspension on mine.
Yep for most items it goes 30 days for military, 30 days for local, state, federal, and 30 days for donation to registered non-profit agencies. If a non-profit wants to use the item in the US, they have to go through their state agency for excess and surplus property and it will cost them. If...
Based on the info I got from the folks on line on this website, I said the heck with it and sent everything in by registered mail. Sure enough they sent me a letter a few weeks later threatening to d/c me from future sales if I didn't send in an EUC.
My response was to send an email with...
In case anyone was wanting info on it....
There is a tan M923 5 ton up for auction at GL. It came from one of my former units. It is mechanically sound but has some minor rust issues. While moving it to DRMO the driver side mirror fell off. The canvas drivers compartment tarp and cargo side...
Wish I would have known you were going that way. A little further down the road in Petersburg, WV there is an old fella that runs a privately owned military vehicle museum. Several jeeps, trucks, and I know he has a LTVP cause he bought it just before I could wrangle up the funds to get it.
