my generator (MEP-831) ran poorly when i got it, after following the TM with no improvement i got the new governor from Kloppk (highly recommended) and when adjusted per the TM it would still not run quite right but much better (surging). a bit of tweeking and i found by setting the gap a bit...
Question for all you experienced people in this thread, i have a M936a1 and tow a M1061 trailer (logging). i have no experience with driving other MV variants (m923 etc.). are they that much faster than my 936 due to the extra tons i've got to haul? my 936 slows down at the sight of a hill...
mine was about the same when i got it, after following the TM to get the governor dialed in - unsuccessful, i got a new governor from Kloppk (see classified adds) i highly recommend making this upgrade. at worst it eliminates a whole list of possible issues, so you can focus elsewhere, and at...
just got one, seems like a good unit, did have to replace the governor with one of the new electronic ones (not yet installed)(see the classified section). it is not as "quiet" as i was hoping, but it is not as loud as a home depot type gas unit. parts are easy, lots of OEM are still in...
saw that, the 8xx have jumped up (was buying an 831) - did wonder what hey are doing with them (the 400hz units)? as other post have stated and as one guy posted today, where some one bought over ten units, i thing some business are refurbing or re-tasking them for resale.
when i pulled my dash (m936) only part way off, i removed the screws on the front, and had to remove the power and start switches (on the left) and i can't remember if i had to remove anything on the right side (vent controls) to allow the panel to be pulled forward. it was very tight and did...
All
My 831 - i got it running pinned, great, but would surge if allowed to be on the electric governor. so followed the TM, got it gap'ed correctly, and no load speed set at 178 volts. with no load seems to run steady (10 or so minutes) not varying more than a volt or two for long periods then...
my gut feel is - no amount of lube will unfreeze this (but sure won't hurt), something is binding it (full disclosure, i sure have been wrong before..LOL). TM-9-2320-272-24-3 section 4-203 shows a flat bearing plate (part 1 bearing assembly), the TM is unclear if there are ball or roller...
one other thing to consider is fuel use vs. load vs. time to carry load. as stated above you have to consider what load you want, and then what average load you will feed for how long. 1 hr, 12 hrs, 1 day, 1 wk. so how much fuel do you need on hand. for long outages you can assume you will...
hate to ask the obvious, but no junk on the deck? second idea, don't think it would stop the rotation, but my 936, the center electrical contact housing had rusted up, and sheared the bolts right off when i rotated it the first time, resulting in ripping all the wires. after that i'd look into...
NatCAD, question? i just got a 831 and noted my fuel pump has a noticeable knocking or pulsing sound, seems to be working fine, but not a noise i associate with a good pump. are your new ones quite, smooth sounding? just wondering if mine is "normal" or i might as well get a new pump now...
kloppk, No i was just happy to get it running better, that is my next step to complete/check the rest of the settings on the controller. I was hesitant to just jump in and start readjusting things till i have a better understanding of the machine and its issues. so I keep reading these threads...
i just bought a 831a and it did the same thing. runs great on the mechanical governor (called pinned i think) - shut down on the electric governor. so far the "fix" was to follow the tm section 4-14 to adjust the gap and rod length (see fig 4-10 part 22). then i checked the voltage on the...
First a thanks to Kurt for hitting the nail on the head in a PM. Pin the set and it runs fine.
Now the new issue. my 831A appears to run perfectly on the mechanical governor, starts, takes load, rejects load, no-load etc... perfect as long as I hold the electric governor off. once I let the...
i tagged my M936 here in knoxville and there were no "restrictions" or rules on future sales, none from iron planet and none expressed by Tn. ..i.e. foreign/overseas sales being the most likely.
