M1031 passenger side saddle tank/offroad fuel storage

I have a Fill Rite 15 gpm pump that has a hose and nozzle. http://www.fillrite.com/ProductCatalog/2273.pdf Plan is to mount it up high in the middle locker on the passenger side. I will fab a mount for the 2" NPT base. I will extend the feed tube down the locker and mount that through the base...

M1031 passenger side saddle tank/offroad fuel storage

I chose this method opposed to plumbing it into my existing system because someone on here told me the 6 way valve needed to do the job is expensive and a leaky piece of junk. I also like the idea that I can put off road diesel, kero, etc. into it without getting into trouble. I also can add...

M1031 passenger side saddle tank/offroad fuel storage

It has been a few months since I have touched this dual fuel tank project. I ended up selling my house, moving out of the school (previous job), packing up into storage, and starting a completely new line of work. Fuel tanks not really part of the picture. I did have some spare time over the...

Found a 1009 truck, looking to make it into a expedition vehicle, might buy need help

I would avoid an M1009 for any kind of serious duty just because you really should upgrade to 1 tons for much needed reliability right off the bat. You also are dealing with a weaker frame and shorter wheelbase which doesn't suit a workhorse at all. Unless you are doing some real technical...

    winch question

Unless you plan on getting it stuck in frame deep mud on a regular basis, the 9000 lb. is enough. If you need more, use a block. Of course you do run out of cable but that is a different story! When I say 9000 lb. that is a good model. Not a MM or equivalent. Those make pull ratings with...

    steering wander issues

Do a quick precheck for play in anything else like balljoints and bearings. If you have any freeplay, the alignment check will be useless. If it's a wheelbearing, snug it up and go. You can worry about servicing them later just get rid of the play.

    steering wander issues

What backspacing? The steering wheel being offcenter will not really affect anything, that is just a draglink adjustment. The steering box being offcenter which on a Chevy K10 I think is impossible because every part has a master spline so you should be good to go there. I would spend the...

    steering wander issues

Add wheels to the list...what type of rims are you running? Are those 37's HMMWV takeoffs? You have a perfect storm happening here. Large lift, poor steering geometry, larger wheels etc. Be prepared to spend money :)

    Rant plus starting issue

An NP208 equipped truck should be able to tow with the rear wheels on the ground with the tcase in neutral and the trans in park. The reasoning is that the NP208 has an oil pump which runs off the rear driveshaft. With the case in neutral, the innards still get lubricated. The trans must be in...

    Parts & numbers help please

I think the IP wire should be pink not green. I prefer RockAuto because I can order my own parts to ensure I get the right stuff, the prices are usually cheaper with shipping, and it comes 2-3 days later which keeps me from having to waste time at the parts store. If I have to I go to the local...

    My 1984 Chevrolet Suburban K20 4x4 3/4 ton CUCV clone #2 - AKA: M1007 or M1029

You lucky bastard! It is a sweet ride so rock it! Can you post up when the movie comes out so we can look for it? I want to see some Cuck Vee zombie apocalypse action :)

My new M1008 and a Gazillion questions

This is cute...rust prevention... Can't be done, rust never sleeps. Like it was stated above, the best way to avoid rust is to not drive it in the winter. This is the only option along with storing indoors such as a climate controlled garage. The only solution to keeping rust at bay while...

The M1031 with 5" lift, 12-bolt H1's and no spacers build!

Nonsense! That is something simple that can be overlooked. I almost did the same exact thing last weekend. I was looking at how close they are and saw one almost touching. I applied a slight upwards tug to make sure they are isolated. Not much room in that casing. Look at how close the ground...

My new M1008 and a Gazillion questions

I wouldn't chase after fuel economy with a cucv, they have very inefficient transmissions and gearing (other than the M1009). Your best bet is to just your tire package up the way you want it, size them according to what type of driving you want to do, and run it. The 6.2 is very economic but...

My new M1008 and a Gazillion questions

I wouldn't say the Goodyear MT is a huge improvement, they have drawbacks to. From experience they do not have great wet traction and suck to balance. On the plus they are a great multipurpose tire that wears like iron. The only reason I bought mine is my rig sees very little usage so I didn't...

    Nashville TN CUCV mechanic

Follow the smaller diameter wire coming off of the front battery positive terminal. It will go up the firewall over to the driverside near the wiper motor. This supplies 12v to all circuits in the cab like lights, blower, dash, etc. With a fully charged battery you should see 12.6 to 12.8v at...

    Nashville TN CUCV mechanic

Buy a voltmeter and get comfortable using it. Check battery voltage and for 12v at the bus near the wiper motor. That is a good starting point. More than likely you have dead batts or bad connections. Paying someone will make you broke really fast, I suggest using the CUCV as a learning platform...
