My new M1008 and a Gazillion questions

I'd say you got a deal. The best part is that the truck appears rust free and complete. Two things that most CUCV owners fight...rot and cannabilism.

    M1031 Contact Truck info

Yup I'm running 4" front springs, whatever ORD sells, and ORD rear shackle flip with stock K30 rear USA made springs. You could do 37's with just trimming but it will be a lot of metal. Your biggest gain would be a zero rate to get the tire out of the rear of the fender.

    M1031 Contact Truck info

Bought mine over a year ago with 6500 miles on the truck and around 6 hours on the Genny. Truck was complete with OBA, Gen, and welder. Only thing missing was the governor actuator rod which I fabbed up. The Gen set needed some maintenance to get working like bad connections and safety switch...

CUCV drive to Fort McClary and Memorial Bridge

So my GEN 2 decided to lose its mindagain. I just rebuilt it a year ago with less than a thousand mileson it. The charge light started to flash when I was selling my house, moving my stuff with a U-Haul trailer to a storage unit, and going tosign papers in the pouring rain. In the meantime, I...

    Transmission fluid cooler overheating

Junk that fan and put the stock one back on. I have yet to run into someone with a good experience from a flex fan.

    New Guy With a question

You will end up with shards again if you are replacing with a 10 bolt. This is a perfect time to upgrade! Plus you can justify it because your rear is about to explode...wait, that doesn't sound right.

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Resistor needs to be bypassed. Wire going between resistor and solenoid needs to be redirected to the 12v post which is within reach of the wire, just install a new terminal. The solenoid is separate. If you search, there are plenty of write ups on here for both.

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Wow...goes to show you any idiot can attempt to fix cars. I can't believe someone would convert a truck from 24v to 12v without changing the GP system. I could see someone putting any old solenoid in there. Amazing how things get so F'd up in 30 years. I think you are on your way. Good luck...

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

Puffing smoke would indicate fuel but no combustion, ie. low compression or glow plugs correct?

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

You want something like this: http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-8255-148-volt-regulator-delco-10si-12si-15si-17si-27si-8040-6241.aspx The picture is generic, it will not have the connections for the two wire plug. Self exciting only needs a charge wire. I will warn you that they suck but will get...

    M1009: Electrical issues (12v conversion)

How bad do you need this thing to run and charge? If you are in a hurry, wire up those batts in parallel. Run a charge cable to the alternator, remove alternator and install a self exciting regulator. That will get you up and running. Then you have some time to figure out what was done, stay 12v...

    Interesting headlight/turn signal issue

Install all new turn bulbs and clean all connections. Mine did the same thing...it's all about back feeding from bad bulbs or poor connections. Don't overlook your hazard switch either. That connection gets gummed up over time. Cycling it a few thousand times can make it better.

    M1009: Things I've learned

More than full fuel...your CUCV is producing diesel...SWEET!!! All of those things are very true. I don't think the electrical systems are failure prone or weak. They are succeptable just like anything else to corrosion and poor connections. On a CUCV, that means twice as many charging problems...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

The canvas tops are super expensive but I think a good investment. It's a shame so few people during the 80's and 90's didn't take advantage of the removable tops on the fullsize SUV's. Eventually manufacturers just phased them out. What a shame...such a cool feature. Gut the tailgate, pull the...

M1009 recovery and first start up after possible 10 years sitting.

Wait! You have an M1031 and a CUCV clone 6.2 diesel K20 Suburban which you used to pull an M1009 that appears to be relatively untouched...can you buy me a lottery ticket and send it in the mail? You have a nice fleet...very jealous. Good luck with the new purchase. What are the plans?

M1008 Lift Kits - Seek advice on size ( 2,4,6 inch) & type: block or reverse shackle

Can't be done without trimming. The lift will only determine how much the fender needs to be cut. You could put an 8" lift and still need to nip the corners. Square fenders do not play well wide offset tires. If you want to minimize cutting, the zero rate really helps. That way the front half...

m1028 from texas forest service with a salvage title?

I got a smokin' price on full coverage but it's for a standard K30. Geico told me flat out anything extra will not be covered by the policy. This is Maine insurance. I'm going to have it appraised when I get a chance and get some antique coverage. I would estimate it is worth $8k-10 because it...

Can you buy an OEM AC Delco for a 6.5T on RockAuto?

m1028 from texas forest service with a salvage title?

I think you are missing the point. The insurance company doesn't care about how cool the front Dana 60 is. I understand it but the insurance company is looking at a standard KBB value. You tell them it's a CUCV and they go...yeah so K30. CUCV means nothing to them. So going by the KBB value, on...
