The deuce is really impressively capable even on 9.00 NDTs and open diffs. There's also something to be said for 5 spares instead of one.
If your current tires are serviceable, I'd delay a tire upgrade until you can go all out on it.
Just my opinion.
395s are designed for a wider wheel. I strongly advocate against it, although I have seen it done. My choice would be MRAP rims and adapter plates.
If you must remain with the stock wheels, consider 11.00's.
14.00s are getting scarce and expensive. The military doesn't use them any more so it's only going to get worse.
For a truck that's a toy, 16.00s are my choice. For a truck that actually works for a living, 395s. My M925 is on 16.00s and I like them a lot, but they rob the bottom end...
Good 395's on LMTV rims should be $300-$400 each.
16.00's on HEMTT rims should be around $500 each (and won't rub up front on 939series trucks).
A full set of 10 11.00R20's on the standard 5ton rims should be $2100ish.
14.00's are a poor choice at this point and I'd advise you to avoid...
I've done all 6 at once more than once(even using the jackstands that were recalled later!!!) That being said, I'd avoid it if at all possible.
Here's what I'd do in your position- I'd get a set of 395s on LMTV rims and swap each one out one at a time. Then sell yours as a set. What you have...
I have an NH250 in an M818 that the previous owner added a turbo to but made no other fuel changes. The truck also has 16.00R20s (53's).
Take off acceleration is no worse than a nonturbo truck on 11.00's, and it pulls the hills at speed even with a load (50k GVW) without downshifting.
EGTs...
I went and dug up a pic of the widowmakers for you.
Note the continuous outer ring on the killer in the pictures. Your deuce rims have a split locking ring. Not the same thing.
All that being said, my preference is bolt together 2 piece rims.
Oh, and a locking air chuck is a critical piece...
I've had tarps made by Edwards Canvas in Paul's Valley OK.
Extrapolating from what large thick heavy tarps cost, I'd be surprised if it was more than $1k for a nice custom cover.
Edit -
Rust is a big deal to me.
Price seems a bit high, by $3-$4k or possibly more depending on just how bad the rust is. (And this takes into account that the mv truck market is somewhat inflated right now)
The long cranking time is probably just due to losing prime. Something I'd consider a...
I've seen that also. I just can't bring myself to believe it. Too many differences in the frames and hole locations in the frame. It would be far more work/expense to turn an 809 into a 939 than it would be to make a 939 from scratch.
That isn't the first bit of misinformation to be found in...
