It took literally a minute or two using a tapered punch. I like the idea of using a pin with a handle and hairpin type retainer for ease of flipping it frequently. I'll probably implement this next time I am at tractor supply.
I flipped the lunette on my GETT generator trailer. It's essentially an M1102.
Less than an hour start to finish. A slot has to be cut so that the top and bottom are the same. 4 1/2" grinder with a cutoff wheel and a grinding wheel. Now I can flip the lunette to be level behind either the M925...
As cajadao said, the white x could be anything, but it certainly means something and bears a closer examination.
Losing a hub at speed will almost certainly result in rollover and fatality. Not that we're worried about you, but it'll generate bad publicity for the hobby (I'm kidding in case...
And postman915, and fuzzy, and tornadogt..... I'll be referencing this thread shortly for mine.
I figure do it in two pieces and weld instead of attempt a bend. 3/8" AR500....
My guess says it'll be luck of the draw depending in which customs officer looks at it at arrival in Houston.
Anything from no problem, to impounded with storage fees in th hundreds of dollars per day.
Talking to customs beforehand is like talking to DMV prior - the answers you receive today...
F350 is generally quite a bit heavier than a hmmwv.
My Ram 3500 crosses the scales at just short of 9k empty.
Although the military calls these things a 1 1/4 ton truck, the more realistic comparison is a civvy half ton. Or a Jeep Wrangler JKU.
A quick search yields the following weights -...
I think you'd be giving up more than you'd get in return.
I don't think you'd see a noticeable improvement.
Even if you did manage to add power, things will start breaking....
JMHO. There are platforms on which it's reasonable to tinker. The 6.2 isn't one of them.
You can have a conversation standing next to my GETT 20kW with it running. MEP's aren't much worse. An 803 would be appropriate size for his needs. Still need to bastardize a cable.....
I'm in the process of doing similar with 60amp 208v 3phase
Decent M936A0 and M816 wreckers can be had for $10k. $15k should get you a pretty good M936A2.
$7k really is about right for that one. It may make for a pretty decent truck, but it's going to need gone through and the air system completely rehabbed at least. Paint. Tires.
The trucks with...
I see a $7000 fixer. Certainly not a $15k truck.
The tires are *NOT* impeccable. Sitting flat means they need replaced.
The hour/miles shouldn't even be looked at on a military truck. The odds of them being accurate on that one are exactly zero....
No argument. Your braking description used to be the standard, taught to everyone for every vehicle. Now they just teach "stomp it and let ABS modulate".
In the early days of ABS a skilled driver could get a shorter stopping distance than ABS. That hasn't been the case in quite some time...
I'm old enough that I learned to drive before ABS was in widespread use. I had been driving years before I ever drove a vehicle with ABS, including OTR tractor trailers.
On most vehicles ABS is a bandaid for lack of driver skill.
On these, the ABS is a compensatory mechanism for that auto...
Tag with date of manufacture will be on the drivers side of the engine. It almost certainly says 1984. However, I've seen four that say 2007.....
Any place that works on large over the road trucks can work on these. Ideally you want to learn to do just about everything yourself. These things...
1) Red River is my last choice in rebuilds. They did little more than change the guages and paint. (But a solid truck doesn't need more than that. Certainly not all RRAD trucks are bad.)
2) RRAD didn't rebuild engines. If the engine was out of spec they dropped in a new one. Check for new...
