Ha ha, no... I actually was going to look for that to see if that was also something I did wrong. I never remember which way to connect and disconnect the slave cable.

Today I used the M1008 to jump start a deuce that had totally dead batteries. I disconnected the deuce's alternator excite wire, to protect the regulator, knowing the trucks batteries probably would not take a charge.

The cold start glowplug is a 12v unit wired to only one battery. You probably have one drained battery.
Use a volt meter and check all 4 batteries.
Charge the dead battery.
Standard block heaters for NHC-250 motors,replace one of the water jacket covers on the passenger side.

What is the voltage at that terminal?

As for a "cascading effect of @#$", not unless someone booby-trapped your truck.
Have you tried disconnecting...
If it was known to be all stock, that should work.
But, if someone has replaced the relay with a "Ford" type stater relay, it will still power the glow plugs.
Have you tested the relay to determine if it functions properly(no point trying to use it if it's bad).
Is the relay the correct relay(isolated ground). If it is the wrong relay, it would be on all the time(your current problem).
Of course you can rewire to manually control your relay, but...
