While we're off topic.... M35s have given my the most grief also. They do tend to try to fight you. I do the same thing - a short test pull.
From experience I can tell you that pulling a 1ton truck with a 5ton truck, and have the steering lock on the towed vehicle resulted in a severe bend to...
I hear this all the time. I'm always having people tell me that I'm doing it wrong - that I should lock the steering wheel.
If you lock the steering wheel, you'll pull the front wheels sideways in turns, with enough force to literally pull the tires off the wheels, or bend the frame....
I...
Mileage -
5 mpg virtually all the time with the nh250. Empty at highway speed, or towbarring another truck with both of them having 10,000lbs in the beds.
8.3 liter turbodiesel much more variable. I've gotten as low as 7mpg with an M109A3 on tow bars behind it, or as high as 12mpg empty and...
Add them anywhere you like.
My point is that the list of tools carried but not used is longer than the list of tools used.... and my above sample covers about 40,000 miles, and consists mostly of trucks that were advertised as non-runners. In fact, the only catastrophic fail was a truck listed...
How about a list of tools you have actually used in a recovery?
Or a list of things that have left you stranded.
I'll start -
I have used -
Jacks X2 + cribbing
Impact wrenches
1.5" sockets
3/4" sockets
1/2" and 9/16" wrenches
Oil
Water
Glad hand air hose with air chuck
Chain
Fuel can
Fuel...
:)
I'll counter this with....
I bought 2 new batteries and a battery charger and drove a truck with a nonfunctional charging system from indanapolis to Tucson by way of Waco TX, simply charging the batteries overnight in the hotel room.
If you bring everything you might possibly need, you'll...
This is like a survivalist scenario. You can easily fill a 53' trailer with things that might be needed... and then you can easily find enough things left out to fill another 53' trailer.
This is a running driving truck bought from a knowledgeable private seller who knows that it is going to be...
Nonsense.
If you're selecting your truck based on the odometer....
The odometers were changed on all military trucks more often than you change underwear....
Edit -
List of trucks that have odometer readings reset to zero:
1)new trucks
2)fresh rebuilt trucks
3)trucks with broken odometers...
Ive done similar quite a few times, except instead of a tow dolly, I just made milspec adapters for the front of the red truck and use the standard military medium towbar.
2200 miles though, that's "fly there and drive it home" distance. Risk it... most things you're likely to need can be...
It's an M934.
Frequently, though incorrectly, called M934A0 for clarity.
"A" followed by a number is revision level of the original design. It has nothing to do with being reworked, revuilt, or MWOs.
It is difficult bordering on impossible to find a 939series truck without ABS. ABS has...
"NEVER" is a very strong statement. I concur that it is unsafe and illegal and should be avoided it at all possible.
But if your truck is dead in the travel lane just beyond a tight curve, with the springbrakes locked... this would e a fine time to override and release them to get your truck...
Push the button on the dash, air is fed to the emergency side of the brake system, releasing the springbrakes.
The service side still actuates normally with the pedal.
I've had trucks where the park brake valve failed and have used the override to release the springbrakes. The severe side...
