I had intended the mount extensions that extend beyond the bumper to double as safety chain grab points using 1" shackles. My dimensions were off a bit.
As a result I wrap my safety chains around the mounts between the bumper and the frame of the truck. The bumper mounts to the truck via 2x2...
Toby brings up a good point...
But since you obviously weld, you can fabricate a custom bumper with an integrated hitch optimized to level out the M1101s...
My understanding is that the AM General trucks all have it on the frame, and the BMY trucks only have it if they went through O/H at some point, and hit and miss with that. I sold an M931A2 that had it stamped into the frame, and I have an M923A2 that does not have it anywhere except on the...
If everything goes perfectly that's a 35 hour drive. I think you're cutting it too close.
500 miles a day in these things is pushing it. I've done a bunch of recoveries over 1000 miles, and one that meandered close to 4000miles. I would not plan for more than 500 miles per day. Frequently I end...
I am now accessing this site from my gf's phone.
Earlier when accessing the site from my identical phone, when updating my winch ad to mark it sold I get a message telling me I'm blocked, and tells me to cease the bad behavior.
I am now unable to access SS from my phone.
I'm beyond...
For a civvy truck it's really hard to beat an M1101. Especially if your civvy truck is lifted.
Most of your 3/4 ton or 1ton trucks will tow an M105 just fine, empty.... full is something else entirely.
From experience I can tell you that handling and braking distances are unaffected with an...

Here's how I understand it:
The air over hydraulic system has 2 air subsystems - a primary and secondary. Primary takes care of braking via the brake pedal. If the primary system loses pressure...
Yes absolutely. Illegal and marginally unsafe. No argument. But likely he'd live to tell about it.
But not dangerous to the point of fantasy like towing it unbraked. This variant is highly likely to end badly.
You're out of your mind.
No, seriously. Don't even consider it. Towing an unbraked 22,000lb vehicle with a 7500lb vehicle will end badly.
None of that weight will transfer to the towed vehicle. You'll have the same amount of traction that you do empty, but a whole lot more momentum. You'll...
Um, if you're stuck enough to need the winch and the driveline, you're probably too stuck to let it roll a little....
Being able to use the driveline and the winch together is a powerful argument in favor of the warn winch for self recovery. (And duty cycle is a big argument against it)
My guess is he's putting them on peashooter adapter plates and bolting them up to his M35
I'd prep them by means of sandblasting and have at it. Likely someone more knowledgeable than myself will come along with a better suggestion.
