    Sideways pics? Let's fix!

I experience this frequently. No rhyme or reason to it. Same picture, different day and sometimes it's right side up, some times sideways, sometimes inverted. No difference in what I'm doing to post it. I stopped worrying about it. Either it works or it doesn't. If not, someone will flip it...

    M983 recovery

SF97 generally comes after pickup, not before. No need to wait for that to pick up.... GPs storage fees are generally charged by their subcontractors directly. My experience has been that you show up with your release and prior to load out you pay the subcontractor directly.

Price for 3 multi-fuel complete engines with transmissions attached

I think $300 is a pretty reasonable offer.... or figure 6cents per lb scrap value minus your time and fuel. Finding a buyer for an engine that they can't see run is going to be hard.

    Dexron VI fuel efficiency?

They gained 4 mpg, which is nothing to sneeze at, but they had to do ALL the fluids to get that. ." I am VERY impressed. Somewhere between a 10% and 20% increase in fuel economy, from reduction of friction. And this when most of the drag probably comes from aerodynamics. That's HUGE, and...

Can someone explain these brake canister bolts to me?

Since I have at least one person's attention I'll continue to ramble about air brakes. Let me play Murphy, I am uniquely qualified. Scenario - someone less fortunate than the OP picked up 2 trucks and connected them via the appropriate towbars and chains and lights. He's driving back on I-10...

    M983 recovery

For what it's worth, that's the best hemtt I've seen up for auction. Plan for 4 mpg and pace it for 400 miles per day and you should be fine. Consider it as recreation and stop driving before it becomes a chore. Don't drive tired. That cab forward position is going to take some getting used...

    M 925 Drivers Seat Replacement

This. I have one of these seats in my most recent 5ton, and it makes a huge difference in comfort. The seat was put in by the PO, but now that I've experienced it, I'll be doing it to future vehicles. I'm 6'2 240lbs.

    M983 recovery

I'm envious of your M983. Is this that nice pristine tan one? Everything works but the oil pressure gauge? On the other hand, a recovery across the entire US would give me pause, and I'm borderline nuts. I have to wonder if you couldn't have grabbed an equivalent truck out of TX and had a...

Can someone explain these brake canister bolts to me?

A couple of things come to mind about the difference in towing our 5tons vs what the big wrecker guys are doing. First off, they're towing a dead truck. Frequently we're towing a fully operational truck. Our goal is to get 2 trucks moved with one driver. Secondly, they're towing lifted. We're...

Can someone explain these brake canister bolts to me?

I presume he made them shorter for ease of handling. Or to differentiate them from his cage bolts that aren't welded

Can someone explain these brake canister bolts to me?

James, I realize you think I have no idea what I'm talking about. To the point that you've ignored what I've posted. I'm going to post this for the benefit of people reading this who are not familiar with air brake systems. When the pressure in an airbrake system falls below a set minimum...

Starting Canister on Firewall, Quick Start

CSM Davis covered it pretty well. I'd just add - I carry a can of ether in the cab, and squirt it into the intake while cranking. This leaves the more specialized container on the firewall full in case my little can runs out. The long trip down the intake stack mixes it with air pretty well...

    M989A1 recovery and towing tips.

Yes, I just caged the rear brakes to push it around with redtruck. As an aside, the brakes were caged when i picked it up from GP. I removed the cage bolts prior to towing it on the road. In fact, I used it as a parking brake for the deuce - when i stopped I'd turn off the valve and unhook...

    M989A1 recovery and towing tips.

I know this isn't a new idea - I've even seen m939 trucks on GL fitted with a front pintle. This is how I "back" my M989A1. Low range, first gear so that it'll just crawl along at idle with the clutch out.

    Dexron VI fuel efficiency?

I strongly suspect the difference is well to the right of the decimal point. Far enough to get lost in random variations...

The Ever so common "Do I need a CDL" thread

What we have here are 2 separate but related questions. The first question is "do I need the knowledge that generally comes along with a CDL in order to competently operate these trucks?" The answer to that one was can certainly answer here. The answer to that is "absolutely". The 2nd question...
