M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

One thing to think about regarding reliability, is the emissions equipment on late model diesels. The priority of the design places integrity of the emissions equipment over the safety of the operator. In DEF equipped models if you run out of DEF you can't start the vehicle. In DPF equipped...

800 miles in my m923 a2 flat towing my dodge

Thankfully no. Although I'm sure it varies state to state and is worth checking your route to see if this puts you in violation anywhere.

    Roadside safety: Stay Alive!

Another way to look at this is "what's the course of action LEAST LIKELY to result in injury or death?" If in my judgment there's something that I can do that reduces risk of injury/death, but is illegal and may result in a ticket or a fine, then I will risk the ticket or fine rather than...

Medium Tow Bar Storage Mount, On Vehicle, Ideas?

Artisan has a pretty good setup on his 925. I'm still mulling the idea also as to where to put them. Front bumper is great except for 2 things: 1) these trucks are front heavy even without a winch. 2) with a winch they're even more front heavy and the added leverage of the frame extensions...

Need title advice on 3 Military trucks I currently possess

Cali has a form and they will send you a title. You POA enables you to fill out the form... This is the answer I got from Cali's dmv when I had a similar issue a while back (except in my case the guy refused to sign the form)

800 miles in my m923 a2 flat towing my dodge

The towbars are the medium-heavy non adjustable bars with y feet. The truckside adapters are custom fabricated to take the place of the ram's factory towhooks. 1" pin holes and 1" plate. Since anything custom made doesn't have an official DOT rating I wanted to be absolutely sure it wouldn't...

1/0 Welding Cable for use as slave cable

I have been under the impression that we're sending somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 amps at 24v when we slave start these trucks... I've noticed that the OEM battery cables get quite hot with extended cranking and that that is the reason the TM instructs that we should pause to allow slave...

1/0 Welding Cable for use as slave cable

I learned something and it didn't really cost me that much. I can use the 1/0 cable for welding (where the hottest I usually go is 106 amps) and I have already ordered 2/0 cable from which to assemble my 25' slave cables. I got quite the education in wire gauge sizes and am now competent to...

1/0 Welding Cable for use as slave cable

Ok, I'm bit more knowledgeable now and I found the following information very helpful: http://www.cerrowire.com/ampacity-charts

1/0 Welding Cable for use as slave cable

I went looking before I ordered it. And tried to be educated prior to buying. I based my wire guage decision on the following information from wikipedia: "Increasing gauge numbers denote decreasing wire diameters, which is similar to many other non-metric*gauging systems..." The above excerpt...

1/0 Welding Cable for use as slave cable

I picked up some slave plugs and ordered some 1/0 Welding Cable to use to assemble some slave cables. The cable arrived and is smaller in diameter than my existing slave cables. My understanding is slave cables are 2/0, so I had every intention of the 1/0 cable being overkill, even when used...

Warn winch western NY to AZ (or maybe GA)

I'm trying to find a way to get a winch here from NY. Or if we can get it to GA maybe I could hit CARNAC up to drag it back here with him when he comes, not that I've discussed it with carnac. ...

Bidding on a truck that won't start even with a jump.

I'm nearby and available with towbars and a truck tractor to tow with..... A truck that runs in the video is risk enough. One that is advertised as "won't start with a jump" should be assumed dead unless you know otherwise. I've done it - I got lucky and drove my m925 1000 miles home even...

    Updated pg #5; I now own a 1990 M923A2.

That slow leak is almost certainly the o ring between the wheel halves. The CTIS should keep it aired up for you. Beyond just keeping an eye on it I recommend treating it with large doses of benign neglect....

    What do you build?

A bumper... the lateral horizontal towpoints are one piece with the frame mounts - 3/8" angle extended under the bumper and continuing as a tab.
