My first truck had to be "right", so I had it sandblasted to bare steel, zinc primed, and shot with milspec CARC. (see avatar pic)
My 2nd truck had good but faded CARC on it, so I just spot blasted anywhere that was trying to rust and rattlecanned over the existing CARC. I'm indecently pleased...
1 ton Dodge and M1101 trailer. Trailer is loaded Tucson to OKC, truck bed mostly empty(one 395 tire in it). Truck bed is loaded for the trip back, but the trailer is empty(unless I win more stuff I'm stalking this week).
Obviously I can deliver anything I have for sale along this route also...
My solution was a mildly lifted truck on 34's and a plate that lifts the pintle just slightly. Empty it rides dead level. Loaded to the gills like it is in this pic makes me think I should have lifted the hitch just a touch more. Tows fine at highway speeds. Backs fine, even off road and rough...
I've got a M925 with the G177s. Looks like I have a buyer for the G177s so I'm putting super singles on the truck. The tires I've found are 14.00R20 Goodyears. I have NOS HEMTT rims on hand. I got the HEMTT rims thinking I'd go with 16's but these 14's are priced right.
Any reason not to use...
8 calls got me someone. They made an appointment for 5 weeks later for me to pickup. I asked about the 10 day rule and was told it only applies if I didn't call to make an appt. This has been a few months but that was my experience.
Something tells me that if you just show up they'll turn you...
You guys are confirming what I already suspected. I guess I could connect series and parallel and only have one ckt complete at a time, but that seems excessively complex and a lot of trouble to go to, with a high potential to screw something up.
Thanks for the info.
Paul you have PM
I have 24V series 12 WARN winches and am tempted to mount one on my civvy dodge 3500. The (cummins diesel) truck has 2 batteries so it seems that this should be a relatively trivial exercise. My worries are that I'd send 24v through the rest of the electrical system and fry things. I don't have...
General rule for recovery winches is 1.5 times the weight of the vehicle. If you throw a snatch block on it you can fudge it a little.
Note that the standard PTO winch on the deuce is 10k lbs and the standard 5ton winch is 20k lbs, making them both a bit light.
PM sent.
My latest truck wasn't nearly as rusty as the above m923a2. This one I'm just spot sandblasting with a $20 HF sandblaster and then rattlecan spraying with the rustoleum paint. I'm doing it in small sections as time permits, front to back. You can see in the pic that I've painted up to the...
I'm 6'2" 240lbs. I added 4" of cushion and re-covered the seats in my 5ton. Plenty of room everywhere except still no really great place for my left foot. Deuces are a bit smaller and may yield to other means.
Disclosure: I haven't driven a deuce since I got out of the army over 20 years ago.
If the commute to work was back roads with top speed 35-45mph, not too terribly far, with a good place to park and little traffic, and you have a high tolerance for lack of creature comforts, then you could consider it as a daily driver.
If you're commuting 50 miles each way and parking...
Nice looking truck. XZLS all the way around and looks to be in good shape overall. Looks like you paid about $1k less than it should have brought also.
I'm in Tucson and have some recovery gear if you need a hand with retrieval.
