It will be a WHOLE lot easier for you the next time when you use a puller to yank a steering wheel. And you don't need them often, but when you need them that's the tool to use. You might be able to rent them from some rental shops.

You say you did some reading. Does that include Threads here on the site (as well as the T/M)? Should be more than one you could Search, that might offer some help here. Have you tried THAT yet?

No suggestions for transport, but maybe you can cut a deal with a towing/ recovery company (with a secure yard), and negotiate some small change to pay them just to let you drop it in their yard until you're ready to haul it off. If they got room, there's nothing to lose for them. First, ask...
