I actually said at the least I'd change the rings, I think swapping out the piston would be better. The rings are what touch the cyl wall and keep the compression in check, that was my reasoning.
I have some of the syclone ones available in the classifieds.

The issue with using a different turbo is finding the adapters to hook everything up. I might have a turbo like yours sitting here. Call me and we can figure out a time to meet up. Tuesday is kinda free this week.
Dunno if you know or not, the run flat for a 395 weighs in at 160lbs. If you do like they did in the video, make sure you have a second strap to stop the run flat, once its out. Lots of harm/damage could come from one zinging around.
You will need a lift kit to run the 52s. Most folks I've talked to that has put that tire on their truck wish they hadn't invested the time and money(for a deuce).
You must have posted this while I was typing a reply. If it smokes that much, I'd not use it till you have a pyro. My multifuel wrecker smoked so much we called it Pigpen(from Charley Brown notoriety). It was turned WAY up, enough to overcome a plugged up air filter and snap the crank. That was...
If you decide to go ChebyV8, I have a bell housing that will bolt to the trans you have in that truck and a chevy motor. I think I have the correct flywheel too.
The more expensive option, but probably the culprit, I bet you have the single hole injectors. Upgrade to the 2 hole injector or maybe have yours pop tested and spray pattern adjusted. If the nozzles are eroded, I may have some available.
Where in Ohio are you? I'm down in Cincinnati.
EHHH its an alloy, not 100% aluminium. I've run 1200 for years and when I did head gaskets, there was no issues. I'd imagine it was there before he got it.
AT the very least, I'd pull it and put new rings on there. If you could find a piston, even better(imho). I'd wait till you get the other head off to worry about doing anything though.
