    Runaway Starter M1009!

Well it happened and I need to understand how. I did the DHM over ten years ago and never had a problem. Fortunately, I was able to disconnect the front negative cable in under 30 seconds. It was a cold start and nothing heated up, smoked, or melted down. Truck was bought from the military...

    No power brakes or PS

    All good.

    No power brakes or PS

The truck drives down the road, just with manual brakes and steering. The PS failed first; I replaced the pump. Then the brakes, I replaced the HB.

    No power brakes or PS

Really need some help. I've replaced the PS pump and the hydroboost unit. Still nothing. No leaks or blockages that I can detect. Jacked up front end and got the air out of the system while pumping the brakes and turning lock to lock per the TM.

    No Power Steering

Do the TMs address a procedure for going through the system to try and isolate the problem?

    No Power Steering

Yes I did. According to the TM while also pumping the brake. It does steer manually. Dumped the PS fluid and added Dexron ATF. No change. No bubbles or foaming but absolutely no power assist.

    No Power Steering

While my son was backing a trailer, the PS went out. Expected to see a leaking hose but all hoses and belts under hood looked fine. Some PS fluid was dripping from the bottom of the reservoir but that was due to foaming and it was coming out the top. Fluid level was good. Brake system was...

    Broken Power Steering Bracket

Just found the root cause of my M1009 vibration; PS bracket was broken in two places. Can this be welded together and be functional or should I start looking for a new one? Anyone with a part number for this?

    Hard starting CUCV's

Check the voltage on the bottom of the glow plug solenoid while the Wait light is on during a cold start. It should be close to 12 VDC or so. Your glow plugs must be getting hot for it to fire. It should start up with less than one second of starting. Checks whether your batteries are...

    Voltmeter Reading Question

I have two M1009s; on one, the factory voltmeter appears to always read battery voltage, even when the truck is off. It is in the yellow zone when off. On the other, when I turn the ignition off, the voltage drops to the far left (red zone), like it is not reading any voltage. Both trucks are...

    M1009 GPR Electrical Wierdness

When I use the front battery negative post for ground I am getting 12.5 VDC at the GPs! I have always used the drivers side alternator negative post as ground because it is so convienent! Whew. Now I feel better...right? Or is something else amiss?

    M1009 GPR Electrical Wierdness

Not many connections. Twelve volt feed from diamond is direct to negative post of rear battery. Twenty four volt feed is via bus bar.

    M1009 GPR Electrical Wierdness

Thanks, Antennaclimber, this is the ideas I need. I checked the voltages of each battery while the GPs cycled. Front went from 12.7 VDC to 11.9; the rear went from 12.6 VDC to 11.9. I am getting the exact same reading from the top of the relay when closed as the bottom (as expected); but I am...

    M1009 GPR Electrical Wierdness

Can someone help me troubleshoot this? Stock M1009, 24 VDC setup, going through resistor bank. Multimeter ground to rear of driver side alternator, positive to top of glow plug relay - reading 24.5 VDC, everything off. Upon startup, engine cold, I read 7.5 VDC at this point while the glow...

    M1009 IP Solenoid

Barrman, Yes, I can hear and feel it click. I removed the governor cover and can clearly see the solenoid move when energized. I even manually moved the lever with the cover off and tried to start it but nothing.

    M1009 IP Solenoid

Is there a trick to putting the top of the IP (the part with the electrical connections and houses the fuel shut-off solenoid) on correctly? The solenoid works fine off and the bowl is full of fuel. New stock filter and new lift pump. Showing 8 to 10 psi to the IP but no smoke and no start...

    Stolen Rear Drive Shaft Assembly!

Can you believe it? Someone unbolted the conical assembly at the transfer case and stole it along with the rear drive shaft in my M1009. I hate a thief! I had to replace a starter and noticed it while I was under there. Now I need another one. How much will this set me back? Anyone have...

Will Slave Cable Start a CUCV Without Batteries?

I have an M1009 that I want to get running but it does not have any batteries in it. Can I take another M1009 and connect the NATO slave cable and get it to start? I don't want to invest in batteries if it want start and I was trying not to have to take my batteries out of the running CUCV...

    Master Cylinder Leak

Why does my M1009 master cylinder almost always have a small drop of brake fluid on the outside bottom? I had this issue with the old one and replaced it and still have the problem. Nothing seems to be coming from the rear where it bolts up; besides, if it did, it would have to run uphill due...

Adding a Third Brake Light to M1009
