m1008 6.2L fuel pump removal/conversion to elect fuel pump

Tip#1: I just finished installing the cover plate over the fuel pump location. As it turned out my bolts were too long. I had to add 3 washers. Tip #2: If you lift yourself up with a chain hoist and hang like a bat --- I found that it makes life much easier while changing/removing the pump.

    M923 M939 VIN location....where I found mine.....

There is not even a hint of a number on the frame rail of my (never overhauled) 1990? BMY M923A2. I sanded through all of the muck very carefully...and nada. --> Using the vehicle ID plate number 23/XXXXX instead.

    Shortened M923A2

AWESOME!... Might do something like that myself.

    putting a tach on a 6.2

16 (27SI) -- per the Delco Remy specification guide for the SI series Alternators. It is the "R" terminal on your Alternator - that is the "phase Tap". It comes directly off the diode pack (rectifier). A "phase tap" is connected to any one of the three winding terminals on the rectifier- one...

    putting a tach on a 6.2

Epiphany: On my tach, the Livorsi GL4000DAPLPLH, I used the 8 cyl / 4 pulse setting and I got perfect results. I realized after looking at the Livorsi's website that almost all of their gauges(except for their "Alternator Driven" tachs XX-XXXX-DA and some others) have that setting -- for gas...

    putting a tach on a 6.2

The Body diameter is 3 3/8" The Bezel Rim diameter is 3 11/16" The main body is only 1 7/8" deep. However the total depth is 2 7/8 when including the 3/4"settings cap, 1/2" light bulb holder, 3/4" terminal bolts, and the 1" mounting studs.

    putting a tach on a 6.2

UPDATE: I accidentally made it home for a couple of days, as a result I was able to test my new Livorsi GL4000DAPLPLH tach that had arrived a few days earlier. Simple test: I hooked up (3) wires -- 12v, Ground, and the Alternator "Phase Tap" (brown wire off of Tach Buffer module under dash)...

    CUCV under dash starter relay?

I like the sound of the "clack" -- I would leave it in.:driver: TMike

    putting a tach on a 6.2

More than likely I will use the STE/ICE wiring - and yes it prevents me from making another firewall penetration. Tentatively my plans are to mount it just above the volt meter on the aluminum dash cover that I'm making. Its nothing fancy, just a functional no frills piece of aluminum - for...

    putting a tach on a 6.2

Follow-up: I just got off the phone with the Livorsi rep. All Livorsi "alternator driven" tachometers use the "R" terminal or any one of the ac legs of the windings for a signal. Thus, there is no need for additional components making the install more difficult or complicated. I'll be going...

    putting a tach on a 6.2

I like the 0-4000 range that many marine diesel tachs have. Not to mention their ruggedness. This is the tach that I (think) am ordering. If I'm not mistaken, all that is necessary for obtaining a tach signal is connecting to the "R" terminal on the Alternator. From what I gathered (via...

    Check your balencer

Here is a link from "the diesel page" that covers the ins and outs of fluid dampers. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go with a fluid damper. TMike

Gen 2 light / Alternator trouble fixed the hard way

Warning to all folks that have a "GEN 2" light not working - and no charge from Alt 2: If you tested and changed the bulb, replaced an alternator, replaced the gen 2 relay, and tested all circuits per TM and it still doesn't work ---- drum roll please.... Then sand down the GEN2 brass...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Did another Doghead Mod and Glow Plug relay replacement on my newly acquired M1009. I found the parts at O'Reilly's . The starter relay was the same model # 7-1860-1 hanging on a rack (by "Prime Line") -- and the GP relay is an S55. It crosses with the NAPA ST-85. A week after getting my M1008...

    Finally got a CUCV

Definition of an understatement: Holy cow! What a good deal. If that guy ever finds out what they are selling for he'll be really po'ed. Two weeks ago I paid $3306 for mine (including auction premium). There were two M1008's for sale at the GL auction that I bought mine at. The nicer of the...

My story / Thank you Steel Soldiers

On Thursday, September 29th, 2011 I picked up my First CUCV (M1008) from Robin AFB,GA. I bought it because I needed a work truck large enough to haul around my bobcat and work trailer. At that time I was NOT inflicted with cucv fever. This purchase was a thought out rational decision based on...
