Show your 5 tons in the snow.

Have you priced tracks for pick ups? I know the smaller tracks for a Jeep are $16,000. You can get a used tracked Thikiol snow cat for not much more than that. I was a mountain warfare instructor in the Marines and we tested a lot of vehicles in the snow. Take a look at Extreme Hagglunds...

Show your 5 tons in the snow.

I've driven my 5 ton in the snow. Its top heavy and with it's weight, if it slides and gets stuck you will have trouble getting it out, even with a winch you need a big anchor. It will make deep ruts that aren't good for a snowmobile trail. I run my Case 450 dozer on the snow and with it's...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It sure made it easier to move the scaffolding around the barn and a landing zone for building materials.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Its been more like a year and a half. Bought another 20 acres and have been developing the property doing almost everything myself. Well, septic, electric lines and a 50' X 80' X 16' high barn. Put in a 12' wide by 14' high door so I can bring the 813 inside to work on instead of working out...

Butte Montana large 5th wheel trailer down a steep mountain.

Its up there on my wife's property so it can stay there as long as needed. We usually get snow in November that would make it to slippery to tow. So there isn't a specific time to move it down. Her dad bought it new in 2009 and towed it up and parked it next to a steep drop off and then built...

Thanks, but I don't have the time or energy to pull my bed. I appreciate the offer!

Butte Montana large 5th wheel trailer down a steep mountain.

Several years ago my wife and her dad pulled a very large 5th wheel travel trailer up to their property. It weighs about 14,000 lbs and is about 40' long. They used 2 one ton 4 x 4 trucks, winches, come along, cables and rope to get it there. I wish I could have been there to watch the show! It...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I drove the snowplow Blazer down last fall and staged it to plow snow. The transmission wouldn't engage so it was parked all winter. Tried to start it this summer and the starter went out. So I finally got some free time and got a friend to steer it while I towed it back up several miles of...

    M813 Gooseneck Ball behind bed

I have a 16' gooseneck dump trailer that I have been hauling behind my pick up. Problem is the pickup doesn't weigh enough to have enough traction going up some of my steep rocky dirt roads. I've ended up spinning my tires and having to dump my load and pull the empty trailer up the hill. Has...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

14.00 X 20's. I got a deal on three spares tires off the rims and kept mounting them myself which was getting tiring. They call these the Rocky Mountains for a reason. I caught a large rock between the tracks of my Cat D-7 dozer and it was large enough to peel the tracks off the sprockets...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

After having three of the super singles blow out on me I let the truck sit for the winter. Found a set of 11.00 X 20 G177 with lug nuts while on my honeymoon. Unfortunately I had parked the truck too far back in the woods and didn't have power out there to air up the super singles or to run...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

I had a 14.00 X 20 tire blow out on my truck while I was driving. Did a lot of damage to the mud flap. I doubt that a fuel can would have survived if it had been mounted there. I had enough rubber pieces to pick up off the road. Wouldn't want to have to clean up a fuel spill too.

You have some beautiful places over there too. I am looking forward to seeing more of your scenery and vehicles too.

Show your 5 tons in the snow.

Well its time to start this post back up. Not much snow but its a starts and hopefully the truck will be hidden by spring and the droughts will be over.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Pulled the generator and air compressor out to the truck and aired up the tires so I could take it for a drive. It froze last night so it took a little starting fluid to get it running. Parked it in a new spot that I dozed out so its out of the way of our turn around spot. Life on the side...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Are you doing the rear also? I was thinking the same thing. I've blown 3 of the 14.00 tires so far and am down to my last spare. How much did new tires run?
