hopefully the final nv4500 swap thread

Lets begin. Ive done this exact thing on another truck forum I belong too and it turned out wonderful. The name of the game: I make a list of all the tools, parts, steps, modifications, problems, custom parts etc. needed to do this swap. Orginize them, have people fill in the banks who have also...

GL noob. Want to hear from the experianced guys.

I've been looking on GL for years now. I'm tired of watching all the good deals go right infront of me. I want to start bidding on this stuff but dont know where to start. I guess open an account and a paypal type thing? Do they ask alot of info just to open an account? So after you win an...

Vanity tags on a CUCV...who has them?

But if i had to choose between the two, it'd be historic for sure. Major price difference in registration and insurance like you said

Vanity tags on a CUCV...who has them?

As far as i know our historic/antique tags can be vanity as well. A buddy of mine got "NSF" for his deuce. He claims it makes him broke!

Thanks Bob! They look pretty nifty...be nice to have a few around the garage just to store random junk in.

    Re-wiring glow plugs

I just read the fusible link sticky...If 10 gauge is the correct size for the glow plugs, i should use about 14 gauge fusible link from the blade connector about 6 inches up then... Would it be okay to solder/shrinktube this together and just leave some slack to solder a new one in in the even...

Vanity tags on a CUCV...who has them?

Looking to get QQ tags, and vanity plates...Jersey dropped the price to $50 a pop so i might jump on that. Who else has any? Or who has cool ideas to share? I think you're allowed 7 characters here. I cant decide between NG2DST (my vehicle number) MTEN08, M1008 (if thats even available) or...

    Wiring a lightbar

The lightbar only has 4 strobes, they dont seem to draw much. I ran it with the truck off (just did this to see how much power it draws) for about 20 minutes and it didnt seem to effect the battery. It also has takedowns, 2 alleys, and front and rear flashers, but they stopped working on...

    Wiring a lightbar

To start off with, i got a ballast plug from work so instead of crimping or soldering the wires together, that go from the switchbox to the light bar, i soldered/shrinktubed the wires to a plug so i can just plug and unplug the whole thing to make instalation/removal easy...i was proud of myself...

    Re-wiring glow plugs

I bought my truck with no operating glow plugs. The Card wasnt working, so i ran it to a momentary switch to find out the selenoid (new style) isnt working either...not that i would use them considering the wiring must have about 8 splices per wire, 12gauge wire into 10 gauge, 14 into 12 etc...

    Wiring a lightbar

Ironically i work for an electrician, LOL. I didnt really plan on making it come on with the ignition, but it is something i'll consider if you guys strongly reccomend it. I'd rather have something well setup and reliable then something that isnt. I will definatly fuse it for sure So i should...

CUCV as my daily vehicle? or bad idea?

I have a yard full of junk trucks i keep around for the heck of it 8) but i have an 86 toyota pickup i daily drive and usually only take the 1008 out for "sunday drives" and run errands if i'm not in a huge rush. I was doing some head work in my toy and that was down for a week or two, so ended...

    Wiring a lightbar

I recently picked up a whelen edge 9000 to go ontop of my 08. I was originally looking for an mx7000 but found a good deal on the edge 9000, which was my second choice (easier to see the strobes during the day) and pretty close to period correctness. Now since i have to tap the switch box...

    Torque converter stuck on engine....

One more question somewhat unrelated....I've read when installing a torque converter you need to push and turn so it clicks X amount of times....I have moved the torque converter forward and back on the trans input shaft, but haven't completely removed it. Do I have to do this turn click method...
