U6TL: Battery or Anti-personnel weapon? You decide...

I had a voltage draw that I couldn't find, so I installed a keyed battery disconnect switch, which I picked up at an RV dealer. The batteries no longer go dead, and the switch adds a little anti-theft security.

    kerosene as a fuel

K-1 I spent most of my adult working life either driving or working on buses. Most city bus companies use K-1 to reduce smoke and smell. K-1 has fewer BTU's per pound and fewer pounds per gallon, hence less power. They had some 69 model GMC buses @ Asheville Transit with toroflow diesels in...

I hate the Smell of Maple Syrup

Butterscotch If you ever smell what seems to be butterscotch near a running engine, you can be 99% sure you have a coolant leak of some sort. Stop leak will work as a temporary fix, but will usually end up clogging your heater core and/or radiator.

    Tm 9-2320-206-20

In going through some old books, I found a nice copy of TM 9-2320-206-20 (10 Ton M-123 - M-125). I looked in the TM Library in the resources link, and didn't find one. I would be willing to donate this to the cause, but I would really like a hard copy of the M-35 TM. Any sugesstions?

    Waterproof alternator

50 DN Alternator Delco makes a alternator for motor coach applications called a 50DN, both in 12 and 24 volt versions. It is oil cooled, and puts out around 300 amps at idle. The only problem is that they weigh about 100 lbs, and are very pricey, even if you can find a decent used one.

    Deuce Security

M-35A2 Battery Disconnect I found a 24 volt battery disconnect switch at a RV dealer, and installed it in the battery box, disconnecting the ground side. It has a plactice key, with a metal nub in it, that while hardly theft proof, will definately slow down the spur of the moment truck thief...

    100% used motor oil fuel.

Waste Motor Oil in nonmultifuel engines I used to pull for Fed-Ex overnight between Asheville & Charlotte, NC, would get behind a fleet of trucks that dumped their oil changes into the fuel tank. You could smell them for several miles before you saw them. Last I knew, the govt made them stop...

    M-35A2 Windshield Wiper Arm Nut

When I picked up my Deuce in Huntsville in September, the right side wiper arm, blade, and retaining nut were missing. I obtained an arm & blade from Desert Deuce Surplus, but am unable to find the cone shaped 3/8 nut that holds the arm onto the wiper motor shaft. Any info on how or where to...

Extra Long Deuce or 5 Ton

When I was going through basic traing at Ft Campbell, KY in 1967, there was a motor pool just across the street from our barracks. There was a lot of engineer equipment, 290-M scraper pans, dozers, graders, etc, but there were also really long tactical cargo trucks. They looked like a deuce or...

    10 ton restored on Alfa

10 Ton I drove a M-123A1C in the Maine Army National Guard back in the 70's. If ever a engine needed a Jake brake to slow the engine down to allow for reasonably fast upshifts, it was the 903 cummins that was in the M-123. Drove a gasser with the LeRoi engine once, and it didn't seem to have...

quick question!!!!! I'm changing my oil!!

15W40 Engine Oil When I was running a small fleet of big trucks, I had the best luck with either Mobil Delvac, or Chevron Delo. Oil consumptiom with Shell Rotella was about a gallon more per 6000 mile run. Barry

North Carolina Weighted Tag for Deuce

NC Tag for Deuce I did some phone research today with the NCDMV, both locally, and at Raleigh, and inquired about weighted tags, transporter tags, antique tags, etc. What I have come up with is 1. you can get a transporter tag for $14.00, but the DMV requires a million dollars of either "...
