What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Had a big bill with the mechanic lately. Injection pump rebuilt, fuel pump replaced, starter replaced, vacuum lines replaced (were original), steering linkage repaired, and some minor electrical work. Truck is a different beast now, drives much better.

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

I'm still not seeing which exact part you're referencing on the header gimnpy. Can you do it up in MS Paint or something and draw an outline around what you're trying to show?

Friendly heads up for 1028-1008 owners

I'm exploring some options to make that feature a little less messy. As I described, it's basically a polymer machine screw with one side milled flat to when you unscrew it enough you create an airspace along the length of the screw. I'm looking around for something in the realm of a needle...

Friendly heads up for 1028-1008 owners

I had similar difficulties, but it was caused from a poorly sealing Fuel Filter housing, so I converted to a new style.

    Fuse Keeps Breaking

I'm not exactly sure when its blowing. I know a few times it blew before the wait light came on. I'm out of 20 amps now, so tomorrow or Monday I need to go get more.

    Fuse Keeps Breaking

Wow, I goofed. Sorry guys, this is my 1986 M1009 CUCV. The only thing electrical I've added to the truck is a 12V cluster which has been wired in for quite some time, long before I ever started blowing these fuses. Yes, I have all my TMs for the truck but I'm still at a loss. I trace through...

    Fuse Keeps Breaking

I've had an issue that has become much worse lately. The 20amp fuse for "Engine Compartment" the fuse that functions the Glowplug system, Fuel Gauge, Parking Light, etc. It has blown a few times in the past at random. Now it always blows new fuses upon initial start up. I hooked up a volt meter...

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

I couldn't find a stock image anywhere that accurately showed my system, and I wasn't going to pull the filter just for a pic. So here is a picture of my back-up filter. The neck is completely round, the rim has no protrusions, there is just the one indicating tab shown that lines up in the...

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

If the above posted brochure is showing Gen2 headers, then mine may be a Gen3 due to its color.

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

Tabs in what respect? Only tab I remember off-hand was the one indicating tab on the filter itself so that it lines up into the header.

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

Ah darn typos. I say it right, just can't spell it it seems. I live very close to the circle too. About a mile up Glassell past the University. Yes, the heater unit is 12V.

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

I was having some issues getting the image file size right to upload here. When I have some time tonight or tomorrow, I'll sit down and make it work to host it here.

    Stanadyne FM100 Spin-on Filter Install

For those of you who follow the CUCV Facebook page, you'll know this was coming. I recently had a progressive issue with my 1986 M1009 starting. The OEM Fuel Filter Assembly's seals were going and it was beginning to suck air creating hard starting issues. Truck would start, run for a few...

M1009 - Initial Start and Running Issues

That seems to be my best option at this point. Ok, so between my new filter options whats my ideal choice? The NAPA, Stadadyne, or Racor? Ideal micron filter size? I've read that 2 is ideal.

M1009 - Initial Start and Running Issues

I recently started having an issue with my truck during initial starting. Truck is 1986 M1009 all systems stock. The first time I noticed the issue, I started the truck it cranked, turned over, and started up perfectly fine just like normal. Then the RPMs starts to go up and down erratically...

With all I'm reading about guys keeping their trucks at certain speeds.... am I nuts running my '09 with 3.73s holding 75-80 on the freeways?

    Tips for Restoring Power

Diesel fuel back in the day contained a higher amount of sulfur as an lubricant. Modern diesel contains a much lower amount of it. Some form of fuel additive is needed at times to allow the engine to perform as intended.
