    flasher stays lit with headlights...

when I turn headlights on my left flashed stays lit. Right flashed works normally. What could be the issue? Where are flashed fuses? Could that be it? Or where are they grounded?

    Need help... M1009 not starting

Only gets driven about once a week, and went to start her up yesterday. She cranked up for about 3 seconds and then died. Now she won't turn over at all. Starter is brand new. Weather is about 70+ degrees I crank it, the starter tries to turn it over but it never does. Starving for fuel maybe...

Hard to start... what say you is the problem?

My truck never fails to start, but it usually takes 2-3 keyturns to get it going. I have a brand new starter. I live in Memphis, TN so it's not cold here. What may be the problem? Glowplugs? Batteries? (mine are old... voltage usually reads in high yellow somewhere until I get the truck...

What did I see? Memphis, TN area

Sorry I don't have a pic, but it was parked at a gas station this morning. It looked fairly new, or at least a new camo paintjob and in excellent shape. It "looked" like a Unimog, only the front didn't look like a Mercedes Unimog front. Although it was painted and I just got a glance. 4...

Help... can't figure out fuel gauge light replacement

I've got my dash apart as much as I see how and still can't figure out how to get to the fuel/speedometer bulbs. My speedometer light works but my fuel light doesn't. I've taken it apart as much as I see how and I'm stuck. I unscrewed 4 or 5 philips screws around the white cluster thing and it...

Pics of my 1009... to keep or not to keep

Thought I'd post some pics of my CUCV. Been great, nothing has broken at all but I had a small valve cover and coolant leak which I got fixed. So far in the last month of owning I've: -Replaced starter (just in case, with a DB Electrical gear reduction one) -Replaced radiator (with a brand new...

Can someone explain this to me about diff/axle strength...

So I've read 50 million threads on here about recommended tire sizes and the axle strength, etc. General concensus seems to be 33x12.50 is max recommended for M1009. However, what is the weak point of a diff when they talk about this? Is it actually going to snap and break, or is it the...

Which gauges are supposed to light up?

My speedometer and voltmeter light up but not the fuel gauge. Is that correct or is fuel supposed to light up as well? Reason I ask is I jumped in it tonight and thougth my fuel gauge was lighted before but I could be wrong. Where should I start? Are there little bulbs under there that go out...

What's the advantage of 24volt system?

What is the advantage of having a 24-volt starter? Was this done just to be compatible with other military vehicles, or is there an increased reliability in having 2 batteries? I'm not an electrical guru, but seems like having a 12-volt starter with 2 batteries in parrallel would be better...

    M1009 speedometer bounce

I read the TM's about replacing speedometer cable, adapter, and gear, but do I need to replace all of that, or is there a more common issue I should start with? My speedo just bounces all over the place on like a 15mph gap... so like between 40 and 55 that speedo is just going all over the...

Anyone have pictures of Rapco (or similar) black?

I'm torn on where to go with my M1009. It has a new paint job by the PO. Looked great until I took it out in the rain, and now camo pattern lines are starting to show through in places. The misses wants it all black, hates the OD. I would rather have black but leary on what it'd look like as a...

Can someone tell me what the little 2" long by about 1" wide cylinder mounted under dash beneath steering wheel is for? It has a couple wires going to it. Thank you.

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Credit goes to doghead for his instructions in thread "underdash starter relay" and the wiring picture as well. This modification replaces the standard GM underdash starter relay, GM Part# 15591718 (which is prone to sticking), with a higher rated 200amp relay from Napa. 1. Buy Napa part#...

School me... what tool to open rear diff?

Trying to check fluids in differentials. Front was easy, but what is the square tool to open the rear diff fluid filler? It's a square thing... is it just a standard ratchet or a certain square socket size or something? Didn't want to try with wrong thing too much and strip it. Thank you...

Starter install... what do I need to know?

Got a new gear reduction starter on the way... what do I need to know about installing one? Is it a simple take-off, bolt-on replacement? I read something about shimming, what is that? My current cucv has the original giant canister starter. Do I need a bracket or anything for the new one? If...

    Anyone replace their steering wheel?

Just curious if anyone has replaced the big-rig steering? It's huge to me... my old Bronco had like a 14" wheel I believe which was much easier to maneuver with. Any pics or recommendations?

    M1009 gears and recovery question

What are the stock gears on an M1009? 3.08? I saw the towing thread, but how is it for a recovery vehicle and getting trucks out of mud? For a diesel it seems to have a lot of torque but seems to have quite a bit of trouble going up hills, so is it capable of pulling a truck out of mud/snow...

What is power junction block in cab for?

What is the port under the dash for? The TM calls it a power junction block... it's the circle metal thing under the dash beneath the radio. Has a screw cap that unscrews and a bunch of holes. What plugs into this thing and what's it for? Thank you.

Have 2 leaks... coolant and oil

Great... not 3 weeks owning the thing and I got 2 leaks. Any idea how much this "could" cost? Leak #1... coolant which looks to be at the base of the radiator on the driver's side. Leaves a small 4" wide puddle after parking it of pure antifreeze. Leak #2... engine oil looks to be leaking...
