If U bought your truck because it is a toy U are going to make the way u want it, even then it is in bad taste not to remember what these trucks stood for, your state ment would be one sided and not the meaning of these trucks at all. "dont tread on me is a good mild statement, anything more ios just someone trying to get attention our hobby does not need, ...Randy

I've seen plenty of guys here with 6 inch lifts on their trucks and knobby tires (who by the way never go off roading) with the silly fake testicles hanging from their truck and even though I find it stoooopid and immature but hey, it's their truck and they can do whatever they want to it.

Come on guys and gals. This thread started out well and maintained for several pages of comments. Let's keep on target...Please???

I know some of you see these vehicles as mud runners, rock crawlers, etc..etc...and as has been said several times...it's yours and you paid for it...so that's ok...I guess.
The topic...as I understand it...is political messages on MVs.

I still think an MV represents the Armed Forces of the United States of America...and all they stand and fight/serve for.

How about this...If you insist on placing political messages, slogans, testicals etc...on your MV...AT LEAST do the Armed Forces personnel the favor of making the vehicle look as non-military as possible...bob it, paint it pink...make it a total abortion if ya wanna....but please don't attempt to use a military looking vehicle to express your personal political views etc...unless they simply say something like..."Support our Troops" etc.

Yes...I am old school and no...I don't think MV's should be adorned with any item/sticker/logo that detracts from it's primary mission...to represent our Armed Forces and our great country.:deadhorse:

My opinion is that I have no opinion...

Reading some of the posts suggesting that you are somehow demeaning the armed forces by placing political messages on surplus MV's is something I do not agree with at all even though I myself would never put any political messages aside from something supporting our troops.

Again the individual himself gets to decide what he does with his vehicle and you and I have the right to be, or not be offended by it. Saying that someone demeans the armed forces with something you do not like because you think so is not correct if the individual is expressing himself. All of us have many different ways of supporting our troops and if someone believes this is his way of doing it, who am I to tell him otherwise? I say go right ahead. It's your MV.

I agree to disagree with you Sir.
I believe that when anyone...civilian or military sees an MV they automatically relate that vehicle to the Armed Forces for obvious reasons whether it is surplus or not.
Besides...most civilians won't know it's an outdated surplus vehicle IMO. They just see military.

I applaud you and thank you for saying you would not do it and respect your opinion.
I do not intend to set myself up as any sort of expert, judge, jury or even a knowledgeable person.

I fully realize that my attitude, values and beliefs are not shared by many folks these days, but they are mine and I stand by them.

As far as John Kerry and Jane Fonda are concerned...I honestly don't think they are capable of having a rational opinion...but my opinion of them ranks somewhere below whale s**t.

Nice to see this thread is bumpin' up again. I never thought it would last this long.

PB...I like your style and your gun truck. I think the likenesses of John Kerry and Jane Fonda have been relegated to well utilized urinals across our great land. I don't need anyone p!$$ing on my tailgate.

I have since last posting added a POW-MIA and Air Force ( my sister is on AF active duty) ribbon to my tailgate.

Well said sir, well said....and I totally see where you are coming from and respect that.
As for Dumb and Dumberer, in my book they are running neck and neck as 2 of the most traitorous individuals during and since the Vietnam war.

Well, it had to be restated sooner or later. When people see green trucks, the associate it with all green trucks, all who have served, and all who are serving. Sure, it's now your truck.

Please be kind enough to respect those of us who actually were paid to play with these toys, when they belonged to the original owner.

What you do reflects upon us, whether you like it or not!

It will be up to us to call you out on it, so please don't put us in that situation.

Thanks, Lt. Leschert (CF Ret)

re: Political messages on your MV

Big Round decals that say:
UNITED STATED BOARDER PATROL

and then pull into the Home D**** where they all gather in the morning and watch them scatter and beat feet - keep moving them farther to the south till they all cross over the boarder.
Its just a thought - but will leave it just woodland green - what you cannot see cannot get stolen.
Zout,

That round decal/home depot idea is hilarious, I would love to see that for myself. I would proabably die laughing. LOL

I would like to paint mine the appropriate color of green,
so when I can afford to, I plan to CARC it green.

Good night,

CJ

I'm frequently asked if:

1. Are you National Guard or something?
or
2. Is that a "take-home-truck"? (presumption of On Duty status is obvious).

Hence, I believe that the vast majority of the "civilian" (non-MV) community THINKS that all these trucks are still on active duty.

Consequently.... NO POLITICS for our truck.

Reality - My AMERICAN flag flying on the truck and a bumper sticker on the left rear mudflap shield that says: GOD BLESS AMERICA - is all the political statement I need.

If they don't "get" that - I know where they stand.

Well I started out with my opinion and ended with it. Guess a bumper sticker would be even less influencial due to the wonderful and insightful opinions I've read and thought about here. HardCorps and SasquatchSanta started off a thought I've been going over. Even PapaBear echoed it. I think if a MV has any unit or branch markings then leave the political stuff off. I would not want something I associate as mine or representing me to reflect views I do not have. Your rights only extend to my own and my rights only go to yours. To me because a MV was used by the military does not explicitly make it always a MV, but if you have any markings be respectful of that groups wishes. Vulgarity, obscenity, and none-tactful images all are cultural ideas they change also. Pin ups would at one time been called pornography. Just remember your vehicle may reflect you. A message or idea you post for the public will be read. I personally feel "Yes political messages have place on MV, unless that MV has markings." Also unless you have permission from the branch or unit do not put those markings on your vehicle.

ok i read the first 3 1/2 pages of this thread and have seen both sides. yes none of us want to "volenteerily surrender" our free speech right, but the MV hobby gets enough flak. i mean we cant just say "put up or shut up" to people regarding the trucks. most people dispise the trucks because they're big, loud, and(according to naysayers) ugly. i am only 15. i share a M109 with my dad. i know the truck better then he does. i also know how people react to it better then he does. i've been called a "eco terrorist" once because of the mileage. the school hates it when my dad picks me up in it. the people in the neighborhood dispise it for the noise and having to look at it. we were once told we couldnt keep it in the drive way, but managed to win that battle. us MV owners have enough to deal with and we dont need more fire from political bumper stickers. leave them OFF.

Maybe you don't realize it, but that came off as very arrogant.

Personally, I wouldn't presume to tell someone what they should or shouldn't put on their truck. If SOLICITED, I will give my opinion on aesthetics or appropriateness... but to set myself up as some kind of "keeper of the hobby" telling people what they shouldn't or should do with their own property would simply be high-handed and rude.

I've never had the honor of serving, but if not disrespecting our past present or future service members means not posting any type of political message on a former MV that is now my big toy then that is somthing I wont do. I know we all have the right to free speach but if all you do is talk then there is a chance that when you finaly say somthing important nobody will be listining.
