Your motivation matches mine. I’ve wanted a deuce for a long time, but was put off by the CDL requirement. Thought about a motorhome version to avoid this but it just sidetracked me for years. Now that I have a place to park it, I’m looking to finally get one. (It’s hard to find parking for one...
According to the California Commercial Drivers Handbook, it’s 26k unless it’s three or more axles, then it’s 6k.
Do you have links to these threads? I searched and didn’t find them.
I’m looking at buying a Deuce in the near future. I’m in California. A listing I saw had a truck titled as a non-historic vehicle and the ad says that no commercial drivers license is required. However, my understanding is that a CDL is required for any vehicle with 3 or more axles and is over...
Did you pull the passenger side axle? I snapped an axle on my old Land Rover, and was going to just replace the side that was bad. However, I got talked into looking at the other side, and you could see a noticeable change in color where there was stress on it. I know that Land Rovers and...
This is a really interesting graph.
I had always understood that the RPM of the torque peak was where the engine got its best fuel mileage. The idea is that the torque peak is the point where the engine breathing is most efficient. Maybe diesels are different because they're not throttled.
But...
I think that "uses" come in two forms around here: work, and fun. Some (most?) people do both. Work uses include farm and ranch jobs, of course. If you have those needs, they kinda speak for themselves.
Fun is mostly the hobby aspect of it. If that's the route you're interested in taking, flip...
Yeah, elsewhere in the thread he says that the Fords are like that: they share the same sheet metal from the cowl back. Sounds like you're a Chevy guy. You could probably check to see if GM products are designed the same way. Since GM tends to have better parts commonality, I'd be surprised if...
If you check out this guy's build on Pirate 4X4, he's mixed light-duty cabs with medium-duty hoods:

Of course, he's putting a Ford cab on a Ford F-700, but maybe there's something there.
So I take it that you make less, get less time off, and you're bitter. Isn't it funny how comments can say more about yourself than they do about the intended target?
I like the voltage regulator idea: It keeps most of the wiring harness intact.
Yarry, you are correct. Once "converted," it is then a "housecar" and doesn't need a B or A license unless you're over 45'.
As for options, you have (as I see it) three:
1. Have it trailered
2. Find someone with a proper license to drive it for you
3. Wing it an hope you don't get pulled over...
(Edited for space)
I don't know what the legal definition of neighborhood is, but If I share a property line with you, I'd consider you my neighbor.
You have an excellent point about the unimproved lot. You really should take a step back and plan this in a way that will give you the best...
I know this is going to be an unpopular post, but I think you need to take a step back, pause, and look at the situation again.
You said that you may be in violation of the grass code.
You said that you may well have articles that could be considered junk.
You have unregistered vehicles.
You...
This is from memory, and I don't have the references at work, so there may be some corrections coming from other members....
The M35 was the original DRW variant of the M44. It was a gas-engined truck. They were converted to the M35a1 standard, which was the non-turbo multifuel. M35a2 was the...
