MEP803a Real World Voltage Adjustment Limits

Let me preface this by saying, Yes I could test this on my own set. However, it is currently stored away unless needed for power backup and would involve a lot of work to deploy it and then store it again for a simple test so it is so much easier to just pose the question to someone who may...

    Chocktaw H140 Heater

Looking closer at the photos It looks to me like the air in/out is coated in white drywall dust. I bet 2 years of sucking in drywall dust would have a lot to do with it not working anymore.

    Chocktaw H140 Heater

Looking for some input on these Chocktaw H140 multi fuel heaters. Someone somewhat close to me has a listing for 3 of them at $100 each. Says they used them for a couple of years and now none of them work anymore. One of them has the remote control. For the price I kinda figure it would be fun...

Our first real outage with the 803A

Picked it up from a junkyard that specializes in heavy equipment. Took it off a volvo truck

    Need 803 parts, crankshaft bolt.

Bum deal but for $900 dollars I don't think you did too bad. Plenty of good parts on that set you could easily get your $$ back and then some. When I needed some parts for my set I found a guy on that auction place who I dealt with and he got me the parts I needed at a very good price.. He...

    My Mep-803a standby generator project

Nicely done. Thank you for documenting this.

    Need 803 parts, crankshaft bolt.

What? No pics? If it were me I would just start taking off the enclosure panels, exhaust, the head, pull the access panel off the side of the block and start seeing what the problem is. I think either way you found water in there so it would be wise to take it all apart and...

    mep 803 WHY?

You are asking why should you spend the money for one of these USED (maybe even abused) generators instead of buying a new consumer model. If you need to be convinced it is a better purchase by all means just get the generac. I can tell you the reasons I chose the 803a for my backup generator...

    The sickness is real..

If you are interested in selling the trailer once you get the set off I might be interested. Another member has an 803 with a junk engine he is parting out in the classifieds.

    The sickness is real..

I am kind of surprised by the responses here. I am close to this set as well and saw the ad, to me I would rather gamble $1700 on a set that looks like it is probably fixable on a nice trailer over the junk I have been watching go on GP for twice the price.

Does/has anyone here used STP oil treatment in their generators?

Straight up Delo 400 or Rotella for me in all of my vehicles and generator. I even run those diesel oils in my old Jeep with the 4.0.

    802 tripping overload

You don't really need to check the connections as much as you need to get some electronic contact cleaner and douche the inside of the switch while you work it back and fourth a bunch of times. (power off of course) I recommend Deoxit in spray form. The 5% stuff will work fine. I used the...

    My DIY MEP803 Arctic Heater

Good tips. I did consider adding a relay and making it latch so that if the switch opens it is no longer latched and power would not be re-applied unless a reset button was pressed. I could also add in a warning light on the outside to indicate overtemp but then I could really get carried away...
