6.5 Turbo is ready for the M1010

Hmm...Interesting. All the brackets and stuff fit fine? I'm not terribly interested in the 1010's (no offense) but I am curious since they have more stuff than the other trucks (two alts, A/C compressor, etc.)

    Steam Cleaning Engine compartment

I've cleaned mine a few times. Whenever I do it, I grab a couple plastic shopping bags and some duct tape to wrap up the alternators. Obviously I shut the engine off. Spray it down with some engine bay cleaner and clean it out with a high pressure hose.

Steel Soldiers emails and site issues

Eh, no biggie. Seems they were good enough to hack the site, but not good enough to keep gmail from shooting the e-mails straight into the spam can  I didn't even know the site had been hacked until I got the REAL e-mail. Check the spam, "Oh well I guess it did..." lol

    Off Roading?

My M1028A1 has done pretty well thus far. I've only managed to get it stuck twice and it's not for a lack of trying. I also make sure to carry a good bit of recovery stuff just in case. (logging chain, come-a-long, high lift jack, etc.)

    CUCV 3 truck?

They also have LSSV's that are built on the GMT900 frame/chassis. New Duramax Military Truck - Duramax Diesels Forum

Running WMO in a M1008 CUCV

:ditto: Diesel actually provides quite a bit lubrication. This is part of the reason diesels generally run longer than gas engines (but not all of it.) Standard practice for running a deuce (which does have a multifuel engine) on gas calls for adding a few quarts of motor oil to the tank to...

    The Move

Eh, you'll passed by everything when you're driving a M1008 or M1028, hills or not!

where to find 12 volt power

I think the first place I would try is the underhood 12 volt junction block (see pic). From what I understand, the in cab bus bars on the M1009's were situated on the sidewall of the truck around the passenger side rear seat and were put there to provide a source of power for military radios...

    No more white smoke

Usually, black smoke=unburnt fuel. I noticed when it was colder, mine would smoke a lot especially during start-up in the morning. Once it got warmed up, it would stop. Don't know what the weather's been like up there, here's it's been getting warmer (in the 50's the last two days) and the truck...

CUCV 's bought at State auctions

:ditto: About a two years or so ago, when the Army units here were auctioning off the rest of their CUCV's one individual I know who was a county EMS manager/head bought one for the department. Looked very nice and original (save for a 12V conversion that was done after it was bought and the...

    Black engine oil!?

I bought my truck in NC and was there throughout the summer. I've always run Shell Rotella T 15-40W. Everybody I knew out there with a CUCV ran the same exact thing.

    Black engine oil!?

Yep. Black oil is pretty much the norm for a diesel. My understanding is that the oil catches all the soot and crap from the fuel turning it black. Same reason why you'll get black smoke from a diesel (unburnt diesel fuel in exhaust) Another good check while you're messing around with your oil...

    73M819's New CUCV

Mmm, I dunno. Cargo capacity on the dually models is two tons. That's one **** of a little red wagon. Engine would be sucking without a turbo, though. A 12V Cummins swap would be pretty sweet, but I'm guessing you'd have to kiss that 24V starter bye bye. But at least the GP system screwing up...

    73M819's New CUCV

Betcha if somebody turned a CUCV into a wrecker/tow truck he'd like 'em rofl Actually, that would be kinda cool...

fixed stalling after start up problem

The Haynes manual for the 6.2 and 6.5 engines covers testing the heater. Believe you pull it out and spray freon or air in a can on it. Between that and the glow plugs, I can't complain. Part of the reason I haven't done the spin-on mod yet. That and my filter base works fine.
