RE: I would be very interested in one if they fit an M1008! You might want to check one and post the part number,it should be stenciled on the cover, I can get the stock number from that and then tell you what they fit!

    Using Jet- A

In europe we ran JP-8 in everything diesel, JP-8 is supposed to be the military equivalent to Jet-A1. this was done for the "one fuel on the battlefield" concept. Never added any oil to it, when we switched from diesel to JP-8 the only problem we had was the fuel filters plugging, JP-8 was real...

ANYONE LOOKING FOR A CARGO COVER?

RE: I would be very interested in one if they fit an M1008! The M880 and M1008 covers have different stock numbers, IIRC they attach differently and will not interchange without mods.

    85- M1009 MISSING STARTER & BOTH ALT.S CONVERT TO 12V

The original GM part numbers are 1105345 or 1105500, either one would work, those would be the "isolated ground" alternators, I'll bet they may be able to get the case size and cross it to a "non isolated ground" alternator which may be less expensive.

    85- M1009 MISSING STARTER & BOTH ALT.S CONVERT TO 12V

If you are changin to 12V just get one from the local parts house, it doesn't need the isolated ground like the 24V system does.

    Driving Habit

RE: Re: RE: Driving Habit Most of the time the woodruff key let loose when the operator started out in 2nd gear with a loaded truck, when I drove them in the military I used to start off in 2nd gear, but only when empty and I never had problems, but wanted to pass on info about the weak link in...

    Driving Habit

Shifting from second when empty is usually ok, I have had to repair many a deuce transmission because the operator started in second gear though, here's why, the second / third gear syncro has a removable collar that is kept from spinning on the shaft with a single 1/4" woodruff key, not a very...

    M886 Radio???

RE: Radio The M886's were never equipped for radio's, and radio's couldn't be installed due to the lack of a 24V system. The M1010's also had no provision for radio installation. If a radio needed to be carried we used PRC-25 / 77's with batteries. The first ambulance models that had...

    Concealed weapons permit in SC

Michael, if you were to get stopped in a state that didn't recognize your permit and were carrying.... Go to jail, do not pass go, go directly to jail! It's a felony in most states to carry concealed without a valid permit. Here you only have to identify if a LEO asks if you have a permit and...

Proper marking of OD gasoline Jerry can

RE: Re: RE: Proper marking of OD gasoline Jerry can We used to paint the top red for MOGAS and yellow for diesel, on the side opposite the opening we painted MOGAS or DIESEL in 2" letters in black paint, I've seen just the cap painted also, the can was still stenciled.

5 Tons, trailers and Max GVW

Another consideration that has been mentioned and I'll give a little personal history, the 5 tons just aren't up to the job of line haul. My first tour in europe the army was using IHC transtar and loadstar tractor trucks for the line haul mission, this was before the M915 series was available...

    A couple of newbie questions

do NOT run it without batteries, it will damage the alternator (don't ask how I know). the fluid may be brake fluid from the air pack (brake booster), its vented usually to the draft tube, if it's brake fluid it may be an indication of a bad air pack.

How long will the M35 remain in service?

Info that I have received is that all the M35 series (except A3's) stock numbers have been "obsoleted" all units are supposed to turn them in, here in Kansas the KSARNG has started to turn them in mass!

5 Tons, trailers and Max GVW

Whatever trailer you may exceed the max allowable towed load for the tractor, IAW the M818 Operator manual "max towed load is 37,500 LBS" With a note "Semitrailer gross tongue weight, including rated fifth wheel load allowance". 40 tons (80,000 LBS) is the max allowable on the highway by DOT...

    M917 have CTIS?

They may have a Y hose on the truck, makes it so you can fill both tires at the same time and keeps both tires air pressure balanced. I have "cats eye" system on out semi tractor and trailer at work, does the same think except it has a visual indicator that lets you know when the pressure is...

    oddball mirrors

Mirrors from the old Dodge pickup, ones like what was used on the M880, should be able to get them from any parts store, just have to repaint them. Those mirror kits pre-date the west coast mirror setup seen on most of the trucks now, man they were a bugger to install, had to remove the...
