door handle turns, door does not open!

Usually I find the latch has rounded off inside, pretty common, the piece the handle slips into us stamped steel and does't take a lot of abuse to round it off.

    Windshields and window glass

Should be able to get glass at any glass shop that does windshields, the windshield and door glass is flat AS-1 safety glass, they should have to do no more than cut it to size.

    defense and safety while traveling

In Kansas it isn't required to tell an LEO if you have a CCL and are carrying unless he asks, some states you have to let the LEO know when your stopped, better to let them know upfront, most aren't worried about a licensed CCL holder. It's the criminals illegally carrying that get ya killed...

    Power steering kit for M35A2

$1800.00 seems steep, the kits are made for the military by Maradyne Corp and were going for around $1200.00, I'd try to contact them and see what it would cost, I was able to order them in bulk and get them from them for $850.00 each, that was several years ago however and the prices surely...

    Transmission Blues

RE: trans troubles The PTO on these is run off the cluster gear in the bottom so it shouldn't cause the tranny to "pop out". In my experiance with these (we repair / rebuild several yearly) is there are two possibe issues, either there is too much end play in the mainshaft, or the 5th gear and...

Thinking more about 12 volts from the 24 volt system...

I'm assuming we are talking about your Deuce, If you pull 12V from one battery as stated above it WILL cause a problem with both batteries, I have this problem with fire departments all the time in the 2 1/2 and 5 tons, we recommend that they use a 24v to 12v converter to run the radios etc. A...

    a question about a trailer I won

The brakes on those things were never very good, and in the military they were limited to 45 MPH on the road. I had an accident with one because of the brakes (it jacknifed) it wasn't pretty at all! Hydraulic brakes + heavy load + speed = Bad things!

    Noise reduction: soft-vs-hard tops

    Brakes dragging

RE: Re: RE: Brakes dragging There are 4 points to adjust the brakes, two near the top and the two at the bottom, to properly adjust the brakes you'll need to remove the wheel, on the drum there is a small access plate bolted to the face, remove the plate to access the shoes, You'll need a .010...

    Brakes dragging

The brakes are NOT self adjusting on these, it could be improperly adjusted shoes, broken or missing parts inside that is causing them to drag, or a miss adjusted master cyl. I would first check break pedal freeplay, if there isn't enough freeplay it will retain pressure in the system and will...

M35A2 -Clear Dashboard Light Cover Lenses

The parts book shows clear lenses come on the newer HMMWV's, they use a green LED setup with it, don't know how available they are aftermarket.

    towing

RE: Re: towing overwieght General rule of thumb that we taught vehicle recovery in the army, when you tow another vehicle, you tow it with the same or a larger vehicle, the towing vehicle must be the same weight or heaver, IE you don't tow a loaded duece with an empty one, I've towed 5 ton...

Umm, whats missing from this pic??

Kinda hard to see but it looks like the shifter is there hidden in the shadows, look under the seat looks like the shadow of the shifter there, also the transmission cover is still installed, if the tranny was removed they wouldn't bother to reinstall that!

    M108 from gas to multi

I think a 250 Cummins in an M62 wouldn't fit (too long), but as with the 2 1/2 ton many 5 tons were converted to multifuel buy the military, easiest way is to get a doner parts truck and swap over the components.

    conventional tires on military rims?

RE: rims The rims weren't designed to hold air, you will have to use a tube and flap appropriate for the tire, IE radial tube / flap for a radial tire. The M170 should have had 7.00 X 16 NDT / NDCC tires as original, I've seen different bias and radials mounted on them, and a good tire place...

    M108 from gas to multi

If you have a parts truck I would think it could be done easily! Remember many duece's were converted from gas to multifuel by the military, I've had several in the motor pool while on actiive duty.

Whose truck is this and what is this light mount?

Probably the same warning light as found on the 5 ton wrecker fender, some deuce's had an "A" frame hoist installed in the bed for light recovery / vehicle maintenance, I had one in Germany until we received heavier trucks and required a TOE change to a 5 ton wrecker.
