    2nd gear....

2nd, 3rd gear syncro collar is held to the shaft with a single woodruff key, I get them in the shop here because folks do exactly that, start off in second gear and shear the key (especially when loaded) then they lose both gears! My advice DON'T DO IT!, start in first gear.

    Dead batteries

CUCVFAN, not to argue with you but please look at the wiring diagram, the left (drivers) alternator, provides 12V to the terminal board on the firewall next to the glow plug relay, then continues to the right (passenger) alternator's "ground" stud, hence the need for an isolated ground (at least...

    Oil change interval on a Cummins 250 ? ?

The LO states 6 months or 6000 miles whichever occurs firstnder AOAP, but I have fire departments that only change it once a year and they seem to do fine In the Army in the AOAP program I saw trucks that didn't get it changed for 3+ years, as long as it passed analysis.

    Dead batteries

If the vehicle ran I would think the alternators, at least the driver side is working, if it wasn't the truck would have died as soon as you pulled the slave cable. Were you able to just hook up the duece and start it? The reason I ask if that was the case the front battery had to have some...

    927a2 questions

:x Man I can relate to that! As an old Motor Sergeant I can tell you if the truck was abused the young troop didn't want to face me! (or the commander!). Stuff happens BUT, I actually had a troop and the TC pay for an M113 engine that they seized up, when the master warning came on and they...

Locating water/oil intrusion source on a Cummins 5 ton

I agree I've pulled plenty of bad liners myself (I think it's mostly cativation damage myself)! Just wanted to mention the cooler as I have repaired many of those also, if no leak is evident from a liner, since it hadn't been mentioned.

    12/24 lights?

If you can find bulbs rated for 24V they will usually work fine on 12V also, 12V rated LED's will burn out on 24V, I'm using the Trucklite composite lamps on my M101 trailer, rated at 24V, I tow the same trailer with my M37 (24V), M882 (12V) and ford expo (12V) with no problems and they are...

    Loose Driveline Bolts

DO NOT USE the nylock nuts, it's a waste of time they will work loose in short order (don't ask how I know), use the grade "C" interference locknuts, with grade 8 bolts, Fastenal is a good supplier for that hardware.

    Loose Driveline Bolts

I'll add to what the others have said, that when we find them loose in our shop we don't bother to tighten them back up, we replace the hardware, new bolt and locknut. Check them often that shaft is the worse for loosening up on the truck!

    power steering conversion M886

I used a setup from a ramcharger of about the same year in my M882, bolted right up no problem, had to mate the rag joint from the ramcharger to the steering column of the M882, the box input shafts are different sizes. Make sure you get all the pieces / brackets for the pump mounting, and try...

With the can adapter water can enter the vent hole, in the field we got water in them all the time. It's a pain to explain to the commander why his lights and coffee pot keep going out!
