    5 ton wrecker bed

I don't think the res on the crane was a counter. the tank if I recall is only about 40 gallons, and the pump is mounted below, but restricted by a filter housing and the hydro swivel. This was my reasoning for dropping my passenger side fuel tank and initially going to install a tool box, but...

B model CAT........ with an 18speed and double lockers..... (insert tim allen grunts......) older B model cats are all mechanical like our 855 cummins, but put out a lot more low-mid range grunt... but I don't have a full shop and $$$$ laying around... JD aint bad, but when you have the only...

    5 ton wrecker bed

I understand the delima, I have an Eaton Fuller 10spd to go into mine, and thus the pondering for relocation of the hydro pump to the frame rail and the hydro tank on the frame. Then I could run either a shaft drive PTO or a wet kit off the Eaton to power the crane and rear winch, and the...

    5 ton wrecker bed

Im referring to looking up the shaft facing rearward of the tranny, but RED and I have a different configuration as you. CSMDavis is a bit more familiar with your 936 bed. We -RED and I have the older version... they look identical and are in most aspects except yours is hydraulically...

    5 ton wrecker bed

on our older 816s the transfer case PTO goes into a Power divider and spins the shaft up to the 90* box clockwise if I recall correctly, thus once it goes through the 90* box it should be spinning counter..... but I think this pump is different than your 936 version.... RED and I have been...

    DOT numbers on 5 tons?

Wyo, MT and ID. are fairly leaniant on the regs. I run my 816 wrecker commercially thus Like Acme66 I have a INTRA state DOT# with the USDOT. I am supposed to have the number painted on the truck below my business name,, but haven't gotten around to it.... I run locally and 99% of the time I...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Hmm... True, it doesn't need to be a 3 port if the pump is on the frame, then just a supply and a return need to go to the crane pot,.... a supply/return to the rear winch, which could be valved to go to the front too...... I don't remember how the 936 that I was looking at was routed, as...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Not to get sidetracked with mission creep, but yes the wife runs the B&B (some discounts may apply to SS members) and I do dozer/backhoe/heavy recovery and the chief contractor/electrician/structural engineer/landscaper of the B&B...... as a side job outside of my day job for a land management...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Cant say how fast I will get around to it, as trying to prioritize and pay off some accumulated debt concerning the B&B remodel as of this point. But having the 10 laying here and amassing the parts to do the swap is getting very high on my list as we both know that winter up here brings things...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

I was wondering why I didn't get any email updates to this thread,,,, my subscription must have gotten bumped somehow..... Yes that 936 swivel is what is on the 936 I looked at the other day, and had me wondering if we 816 owners could retro fit that swivel into our systems to alow us to run...

Adding a hydraulic or electric retarder to a 5-ton

Not really relevant here since we are talking about large trucks, but for what its worth, IF anyone decides to do the older GM caliper parking brake conversion, or the dump the drums for disc rear conversion. Particularly on the CUCCV platform. beware that there are two versions of the...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Definatly something to ponder for the upcoming days,,,,, The 816 stock will rotate 270, and by removing the stops 360 but kiss your lights good bye,,, mine are no longer functioning and Im sure its down in the swivel, as I was unloading foundation blocks last fall and everytime we would swing...

Adding a hydraulic or electric retarder to a 5-ton

I love Jakes,,,, Jacobs Brake,, I jaked my 36,000 lbs 816 wrecker with a 3 stage jake, meaning that stage one activates the jake on one head, stage two does two heads, stage three kicks in the last head, -855 cummins (the 250nhc that is in our 5 ton trucks) segmints the head for the engine...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

wow, the evolution of thread highjacking has begun.... Meanwhile back at the ranch,,,,,, I am just glad to have my wrecker back up and running for now. I was going to go after the 10 spd Thurs but snow and a few other things got in the way. In looking at the 936 I found such a mess under...

    Wrecker Broken CV Joint

By re-engineering to the current configuration I can easily fix my shaft with a $12 u joint from any auto parts store, fromthis point forward, can't get any cheaper than that. The civy CV joints that Adams and a few of the others chimed in with were anywhere from $60-500 . the stock shaft...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Red after pondering your theory on hydro conversion, I stopped by a towing service in Newcastle WY, on my way back from a training session. What a mess under the 936 with multiple PTO and frame mounted hydro pump with tank on crane, did get some pics of winch motors so I hope I can track down...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Thanks Red, I will have to ponder this idea, the crane pump is up in the turret and currently powered by the 90* gearbox, not really sure how to remote mount it without messing up the supply tank. Checked the t case tonite after work, there is some up/down movement in the t case PTO, but...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Either way will work for me Jeff, Think my woes aint over yet, was using the crane last nite and heard that tell tale ticking coming from under the bed, crude isolation in the dark points to T case PTO output that goes to the Pwr divider. I need to look at it in the daylight to see if it may...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

That would be correct, the pump motor that powers the crane drive. particularly the pass through from chassis side to crane turret. are you still parting out that 936 that we talked about over the Phone some months back?

    wrecker boom extension cylinder troubles....

yeh, looking at it last nite, It will for sure not come out the rear, the cable pulley blocks are welded in from the inside of the tube. I think that with extreme care, I can split the booms and pull the inner with the cyl out of the outer, without having to pull the whole boom assembly...
