    Jd 6101 or 6125 repower in m939

Who says it has to be an auto???? finding a donor drivetrain with a multi speed tranny is relatively easy, finding one you can afford is not as easy... Its not that hard to mount a clutch pivot on the frame, and a lot of the bigger newer drivelines have hydraulic clutch slaves now. On the...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

I missed the part about the pass side "hole" and not the actual tank,, yes I think with a slosh factor/reserve of a few gallons, the driver side is 78gal. I am in favor of keeping the driver side in place, as its bigger, considering I do a lot of stationary "idleing or 1200rpm" with the crane...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Im a bit rusty on my cubic inches/volume/cubic feet but 46.5x21x26 = 25,389.00 cubic inches(or such) on the fuel tank,,, ------------------------------------and ----------------------25.5 x 20x35.25 = 17,977.50 on the hydro tank,,,, which unless Im screwing up big time, the fuel tank would...

Keep up the good work..,,, You will "have the only one there is around" when your done...----- just hoping that when you pull the light switch out all 3 headlites don't come on......(Johnny Cash)))

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

yeh, I didn't fully clarify on the semi tank, but my thought was to use the whole semi tank as a hydro tank or some form of the larger side of the tank as a hydro tank and the smaller (formerly hydro) side as a reserve fuel tank... would likely be aluminum..... Plastic tanks are very common...

    5 ton wrecker bed

Looking good,,,, I see someone didn't close a door, or left something on the deck to catch the hydro tank and dent it.... Im gonna guess the previous Owner or Soldier B.... Figure you will likely put ground spades behind the cab ???? As for the rear drag winch,,, Yes, a mild regearing of...

    Wrecker wishlist of mods

Zeb That Mort winch looks a lot like our rear drag winches..... though with the extra gear on the side, I think it came from a Holmes,,,, HMMM.... If I had a fortune laying around that I wanted to reduce to piddlings.... I would snag a few of the 816 or 936 rear drag winches and set em up...

    "Rescued" M816 Wrecker

Red, Just thought about it,,, but we may be able to find a big fuel/hydro tank laying in a junk yard from a semi... some of the 100 gallon round semi tanks have hydro tanks built into the rear portion. this would mean a change in mounting brackets but then again the tank may come with...

    New Purchase...M816!

as someone here the other day said, these things are a "swiss army knife" of toys. All good points mentioned so far, I cannot stress enough to check that crane drive PTO shaft as when it fails it will destroy other parts made of "Unobtainium" and the boom will be in whatever position that is...

New owner of a AM General M936 Wrecker in Oklahoma

I'll second that, the big 395s are nice and impressive, but ultimately set It up too high for regular tow work... The Bud stud pilot wheels can be swapped out to 12R 22.5 or 11R 24.5 to have a more readily available replacement.

New owner of a AM General M936 Wrecker in Oklahoma

Careful and verify with that 5 ton parts reference. I have found several things wrong in there. Mostly with the older 809 series,, (my 816 wrecker) specifically it calls for a Napa 4067 kit to convert the 855 Cummins cartridge oil filter to spin on, that kit is wrong, for our horizontal...

Well I done did a thing....

problem with "Go Fund Me" is that the fine print will tell you that they keep 14% off the top, and that all the money raised will likely end up coming to you with the threat of a taxable annual income........ sooooo , nuts foiled again.

    wrecker boom extension cylinder troubles....

Thanks for the ideas, and input. I had determined to let this one leak some more as I have other issues to look at,,,,, Following Red down a rabbit hole of relocating the hydraulic res down to the passenger side fuel tank location(actually converting the tank to be a hydro res... and moveing...

    M543A2 wrecker joins the family

Im not familiar with the "plate" but knowing that stupid handle,,,, I would question, why not mod the handle......???? heat/bend forward some so that in disengagement position it is off the back wall by say 3 inches... and right in Funny bone range when engaged.....

    5 ton wrecker bed

here is a pic of the older M816 version, as you can see we old school with the 816 have a gear box that powers the hydraulic pump in our crane turret. This is vastly different than your 936 which I could not find a pic of. Davis or Zebedee likely have more knowledge than I on that topic. Red...

    5 ton wrecker bed

those contacts are for the lights, 24v dc. problematic if they ever give you trouble. basically they are on 3 rings with insulators internally that will allow contact of the electrical to pass up to the crane lights. maybe I can find a pic on here somewhere.
