M792 Gamma Goat Ambulance
(In restoration)
The M792 is the ambulance version of the M561 Gamma Goat, which was developed to address problems with mobility in the 1950's and 1960's. The prototype, the XM561, was built by Chance-Vought Aircraft Company and used an...
RE: 353 Detroit
I have no idea guys. most of the mechanics that i talked to didnt know either, but the PS pump leads me to think a truck of some kind. MAybe a yard truck, tug....???? Either way, it is a very nice engine and transmission and could definately work something. Could it have been...
I had some free time today so I went out and done some research on this Detroit Engine and obtained some numbers, at the request of some fellow members.
Heres what I came up with from the labels and decals..

You are right...Seems like if you had a Phillips screwdriver and a 9/16 wrench, you could completely disassemble a truck. I presume they were made like this so that it would be conveniant if you broke down and didn't have 47 different sizes of wrenches and screwdrivers. And i broke several...
RE: Re: RE: What is this stuff??
I have been told that the Detroit IS a Gama Goat engine. I went and picked this thing up today and it is beautiful !! It appears to have never been used. It also has a new allison transmission on it, as well as a power steering pump, alternator and starter, and...
RE: Re: RE: What is this stuff??
I don't know any particulars about HP on the Diesel. Heck, it has a brand new Allison transmission hooked onto it as well. I will post info after i pick these up and can find out more details.
I have bought both of these items sight unseen, (other than the pictures) and would like to know what they are and how much they are worth. The green engine has an Allison automatic and is a 3 cylinder diesel. And I have been told that the tan engine is a generator. Thanks for any info that you...
RE: the 813 winch
We got everything installed with the exception of the PTO levers. We manually put the PTO in gear and let out and retracted the cable qnd it worked great. No weird noises or anything, so it sounds like it is going to work just fine. The handle on the winch itself is a bear to...
RE: It
After reviewing some pictures, it appears that I am missing the roller that goes directly in front of the drum, just below the top roller. Guess that I will need to find one of these in order for it to work correctly.
RE: It
Uh-oh..According to the above pic, I dont have the part that is in front of the winch. But I will take a look at that thread. Hey, thanks Doghead [thumbzup]
RE: It
not yet but will soon. Pics are what i was looking for. I have not seen too many pictures of winches and rollers but i will try and post one later of my truck. Thanks
After procrastonating for several months, we have decided to finish mounting the winch and hardware on the 5 ton. The winch,PTO, and drive shaft are on and all that is left ( i think ) is the levers and the top roller. Does anyone have a close-up of how their cable is run over the roller?? What...
Re: RE: LOUD bang in drive train....M813
Yes Chris, we did go into reverse easily several times after the occurance. We didn't have any other problems the rest of the day. I believe that this ol' truck probably sat for awhile before we bought it.
Re: RE: LOUD bang in drive train....M813
Yes, I have heard it air shifting before, but today, the two-way radio was jabberin' and i wasn't paying attention to the air shift. You think thats what it might be?? Where should i start looking and what should i look for?? Thanks
