Today while out fighting fire in the 813, we were in reverse, backing up to get thru a gate. After backing about 25 feet, we hear this huge bang (just one) that came from under the truck. It sounded like we had plowed over something but this is the second time that this has happened. We were on...
We have one exactly like it Ray. We use ours for fighting wildland fires and as I post to this thread, it is at a monster grassfire 20 miles north of here. As mentioned above, you will definately find that the power steering is a nice feature of the 813. Ours is also a 70 Kaiser.
Guys, I have tried searching for this but to no avail and i am short on time. Our M813 fire truck is down until i can find a schematic for the back of the headlight switch. I basically need to know which wire feeds power into the switch housing so that i can run it to the master battery switch...
Sure you can !! Just gas on it and don't let off. I used to do this all the time in my old deuce. There was one hole that everyone got stuck in except me. And my old truck would just waller it out.
I have noticed the past several times starting the 5 ton that it is getting harder and harder to start. Finally, it didn't start and the started started clicking like a battery problem. So I seperated the two batteries (4D's) and charged them up. Cranked like a brand new truck for several times...
Bad thing about shipping it on rail is that in all reality, it will probably get vandalized on the way. I am a conductor on the U.P. and most military trains are "high priority" shipments so they keep them moving. As far as shipping your truck, it would probably do fine but you would probably...
Our M813 (the red one) will run 55 wide open with 1,200 gallons and 11x20's.
The white one belongs to a neighboring department and is claimed to run 70 with 1,000 gallons.
Re: RE: bad luck today
LOL !! That WAS the DUMPlomat in the avatar. When I worked for DPS, my partner sent me that picture and I don't even remember what for. He said that clunker would only run 99 MPH wide open, even when new. Texas has 318's with the 4 barrels. My dad (who retired from a...
Your exactly right Kenny. My old 71 deuce never left me walkin'. Now she had to limp us home several times but she always got us there (knock on wood). Should have never sold that old truck . . . .

Towing that much weight would get you in trouble with the highway patrol. As mentioned above, anything over 26,001 requires a Class A(in Texas), but it would NOT have to be commercial. The class A only would cover a combination for the 26,001 or over. CLASS A CDL COVERS 26,001 COMMERCIAL...
I originally saw your truck on youtube several months ago. I too just finished a firetruck and can fully understand all of the hard work that you have done. Your truck looks very nice. Here is some pictures of ours.
Thank you David. I really appreciate your comment. All of the guys sure like the 5 ton, since they have never seen a brush truck like this. I just wish that they had put as much sweat and time into this thing as i had. I think that they would have more respect for it and it would mean more to...
I am fixing to put a winch on my 5 ton but it doesnt have that roller assembly. What is the purpose off this roller and slide up on top of the winch? Also, I don't wanna look like a dummy later down the road, you say that the cable on a 5 ton goes under the bumper ??

Thanks Chris. I found one on this roscommon website exactly like i had in mind. Looks like they have updated the site from several months ago when i last visited. Man, i owe you one !! Thanks to everyone for the help. We had talked in the beginning about doing one of those "Codbusters :lol...
