Top fits both
Apparently there was a change in the deuce cab (I have had more than one person tell me this). Notice the tag says it fits either a 2 1/2 or 5 ton. It just doesn't fit the earlier models like mine. Sorry for the blurry picture.
Pictures
I don't know if the moderator is monitoring this but I just looked at the pictures I posted. I noticed that they had my username on them. I don't mind, but two of them are from this website on a thread about axle seal replacement. I don't want to appear to be taking credit for...
Axle seal
I forgot I had these pictures (some downloaded from this website). The thin grease appeared to contain gear lube. It was so thin that it ended up on the brake shoes. While I had the backing plate loose I changed the wheel cylinder, brake shoes, and turned the drums. Not a lot...
Hardtop
I have a metal one that I am looking to unload (sell or trade). Be aware there are two different sizes, I have the one that fits the newer (larger) cab.
bracket
That is a bumper extension, see picture above. If I remember correctly, there is a left and right. The winch brackets sit on top of this bracket, the winch bracket can be seen in the picture. Use small bolts to attach the brackets (except where the only thing that works is a long...
won't start
You have probably tried this but ....disconnect the shut off cable and push the rod all the way (don't use anything other than force of your fingers) into the pump housing. See if it will start. I had a cable once that would not let the rod go all the way in. Anyhow its cheap...
Military RR Engine
Here is a little something to wet the military locomotive whistle. Built for overseas service (Whitcomb 65 ton) pulls passenger trains today. Saved from the torch by the man pictured in the cab and others. The old girl runs good (Cat powered today) and is grateful for...
Coolant leak
I have a Stant cooling system tester that I got from the Snap on man (some larger NAPA Stores are loaning tools, you have to leave a big deposit, you might be able to get one there. Make sure whatever you get fits the radiator opening, take the cap with you) Its basically a...
Plate
Here in Ohio if you have a military vehicle and its tagged as a historical vehicle you can paint the number on the front and rear of the vehicle (contrasting color) and that serves as the plate. However, you have to keep the plates with you at all times. And its a real god idea to...
Thinking
Thinking for the individual---problmatic.....Thinking by the group problem solving. I can feel a NAPA (Milwood has yet to respond to my email) trip coming up. Thanks to everyone who just made routine maintenance a bit easier.
I really really hate (although I do for safety's sake) to check the brake fluid. I was wondering if I could disconnect the vent line to the master cylinder and run it to a vented remote transparent reservoir mounted in an easily accessible area. Can anyone see a problem with doing this?
switch
NAPA 800 Amp Keyed switch. Its a lot further away from thr exhaust pipe than it looks. Also needed short piece of HD battery cable to run from switch from switch to starter. Works well and when switch off no batery drain and increased theft protection.
While it may look as if something when boom in there it was intentionally done. I bent the metal back off of the nuts to take the spindle off. Almost all were bent over except the top two. The studs looked hard and the nuts were harder than anything you can lay your hands on at the average...
Not an expert
I am not an expert but there use to be a cam on some carburetors that sped the idle up when the chock blades were close to being closed. Anything like that? Also, if possible look down the carburetor when the engine is running. Is there any/much fuel dripping from the...
I think I know the answer to this question but just in case.... As you can see from the picture someone in the past has chosen to bend the axle shield over to make a crude safety lock for the spindle nuts. Currently, they have star washers on them that seem more than adequate for keeping the...
In my fervor to finish my front end work on the deuce I forgot to lube the front axle bushing in the inside end of the stub hub (actual term?) when I put it over the axle. The cavity is packed with plenty of NAPA's finest grease that crossed over with the specification in the Lube order. Is...
