its nothing wrong with replacing the seal. i would, since you have it apart. that will be one thing not to worry about, along with the clutch -
whine in 5th gear
Its common for those transmissions to "whine" like that. make sure the oil filled properly. -

Transmission leaking, found out why
the vents are called Poppet valves. you check them once a while. To check them, push down on them and they should spring back, if not replace them. they are no good. -

The Eng, Trans, Transfer, all axles all need to breathe. it will do it thru the vents and breather tube on the eng. -

M915A2 M915A3 Freightliner Tractors?
