    Painting aluminum

Find somebody who paints aircraft in your area. They will be able to help you with the proper chemicals and primers. That is usually the best thing to do. Getting paint to stay on aluminum can be trying at times!

Borrow a tow bar for a weekend ?

I had one of them, sold it to Ron. The things are absolutely huge, and heavy as lead. I actually have a set of adapters for one that go to 3/4 pins. I am holding them for Ron. I can't imagine someone using one of these towbars on a HMMV, they would just about collapse the front suspension. Plan...

    Alternative Fuel and 6.2's

I was going to chime in on that one. We used an outboard motor tank squeeze bulb on an old Case 350 I used to run. It was hard to prime after a filter change. This made it a snap. We left it plumbed into the supply side of the filter housing. I always used a Johnson bulb, as I had axcess to them.

    OA 331

If the main caps are broken, the engine is probably not worth building. You will have to line bore the block when you change the caps, they are not a bolt on replacement. Your rods will probably have to be resized as well. OA 331's are not that uncommon, I have seen a few in junkyards over the...

    First deuce

$3000 from an individual seller, drove it home 165 miles. Single radials, new vinyl cab top, drivers spring seat, jack, air hose, lug wrench, fresh oil, filter, and lube job. 1/2 tank of fuel to boot! Had a current Alabama title.

    Construction Equipment

The "tractor.jpg" picture is a Bobcat T200 with a hydraulic stump grinder mounted on front. No idea what it is doing "over there", mine clearing maybe? It would be Hell on AP mines, not so hot on AT mines.

Almost blew the multi, Check your throttle return spring!!!

Lots of the old cars had 2 springs, one inside the other. If one broke, the other still had enough tension to bring the throttle back down.

    Towing M35A2 with M911 HET

Who in the civilian world buys HETT's? Deep woods loggers I guess? Too wide for highway use without a constant overwidth permit.

    Engine Swap

My Mom lives out at King Lake. Which little wide spot are you from? I bought a good engine in the can for $440 or so from GL. There are usually engines to be found for $700 or less if you look. If you spun a main, the engine is not worth rebuilding, IMHO. It can be done, but is not economically...

Where are you in NW Fla? I grew up between Ft Walton Beach and Panama City, little town called Point Washington.

Whats the secret for split rims?

Perfectly safe to stand on top and break the bead down. No air pressure! If you properly seat the ring before you air up the tire, you will be fine. I am a believer in using a safety cage when inflating the tire. Barring that, put the tire on the dirt, ring down, and use a 50' hose with a clip...

    Fuel line fittings

Bjorn The compression fittings are good for the nylon or teflon lines. They will also work with copper tubing. If you get Swagelok or Parker Bitelock fittings (2 piece ferrules), you can go over 3000 psi with SS tubing. There is a plastic or brass sleeve that can be pushed into the plastic...

Whats the secret for split rims?

Always a good idea. Over the years I have seen a few wheels that had rusted out around the valve stem slot. Once, on an ancient Studebaker wheel, I had to weld in a little patch to keep the tube from blowing. I don't weld on cracks in wheels, but this area can be safely welded if you know what...

    LMTV

The eternal struggle of armor vs. penentrator. A big enough shaped charge can penentrate just about any thickness of armor. Unless they start clearing a 200 foot right of way and covering it with 2' of concrete, the danger to our vehicles and men will be very real. These people are getting help...

    Moving 10 ton tractor

What hit the truck to cause the damage to the front end? Will 5 ton sheetmetal parts fit that behemoth?

Opinion of Continental turbo diesel engines in M35A2?

The Cummins 250 is found in later 5 ton trucks. The M35 originally used a OA331 REO gas engine. Later models were powered with LDS427 multifuels. Later, the LD 465 (non turbo) was used. Sometime in the early 70"s, turbochargers were added to reduce smoke. Many many of the older trucks went...

Differences between military and civilian 6.2L engines

I believe AMG now owns the 6.2/6.5 engine plant and sells engines to GM. Part of GM's restructuring plans to save money (read: try to keep from going bankrupt).

    beacons....

You can get 24 volt beacons off fork lifts, or from industrial supply houses. 24 VDC is a common control voltage in England as well as the US.
