    2nd alternator, 12V

Thanks for the hard work and sharing the idea with us. I have been trying to figure out a low cost way of doing this for snow plow electrics. You just solved that issue for me. Don't apologize for your English. You do very well considering it's not your native language. There are a lot of...

Im not sure if I like this 6x6

I agree. I just went out and looked at dad's M220 to confirm. Definitely looks like that drivetrain. Which would mean in stock form the GMC 302 inline and Hydromatic tranny. That would also explain the extended front bumper. Someone could have shoe horned a Pontiac, Cadillac or Olds engine into...

What to buy? An M35A2 or a M35A3

Keep in mind if you call it a deuce and a half it is a 2.5 ton truck. It could be a WWII CCKW or a 200 series truck or any of the M-35 series, standard, A1, A2, A3. 5 ton is a 5 ton. If you get the 5 ton and bob it it's still a 5 ton.

    Lugs OVERTIGHTENED

What's the PSI of the shop compressor? I ask because some compressors only go 110 psi. You may need 135+psi to run the twin hammer HF 1" gun effectively for initial removal of the lugs. If the shop had a high pressure compressor and you don't you may not be able to match their capability. This...

    Alternator problem

Before you start twisting knobs and turning screws I would run some diagnostics on the charging system first. Do you have a volt meter? If the answer is yes then you can test the alt. to see if it is charging. If the answer is no go to the hardware store or your local Wal Mart and buy a $10...

What to buy? An M35A2 or a M35A3

We are always interested. Welcome. Please keep in mind like BulldogMack posted this question comes up almost weekly by new members to the SS site and then becomes a bone of contention between A2 and A3 owners turning into a non productive shouting match about the merits of the two...

    Licensing/Registration Bobbed deuces

No problem Hammer. I did not take offence. You are right. I used the wrong terms to decribe that. I point things out like that when other guys do it. The frustrating thing is I find myself making those mistakes more often these days. :-x And I was unaware that CA had the three axle rule...

M35A2 or M35A3? Pro's and Cons of each

There are a lot of reasons why the A3's are being surplused out. And they are good trucks. I don't prefer them but you can't go wrong with either an A2 or an A3. The A3's have tremendous value for the prices being paid for them. They are basically new medium duty, turbo diesel, automatic...

    Licensing/Registration Bobbed deuces

So I'm wrong twice in the same thread. Awesome! My fault guys. Air assist is the correct term to describe the brakeing system. I knew this......I think I must be losing small details somwhere in my mind. I did the same thing a while back about axles being cast iron and I meant they were...

M35A2 or M35A3? Pro's and Cons of each

My guys have told me that the truck was more user friendly from an operator standpoint right up to where the operator did not understand how to use the CTIS or understand what it did and the truck would be submitted for service. Then when put back in service with nothing repaired they would be...

Another way to Bob a Deuce!

You for sure could use plate to fabricate spring mounts. Or you could un rivet the M-105 spring mounts off of the M-105 frame and fabricate 4-6 inch blocks to space the spring mounts down for a level ride height. But if you use the M-105 frame it does all that for you and you don't have to...

    Epic Tire Failure

The old man knows a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff. I know a little about a lot or a lot about a little. Even being his padawan learner I will never know as much as he does.[thumbzup]

    Licensing/Registration Bobbed deuces

No CDL needed for an M-35 nationwide as it has air over hydrailc brakes and a GVW of less than 26,000 lbs. If you haul a trailer with the Deuce the GCVWR, Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating, is supposed to be under 26,000 lbs. or you need a CDL or class A non commercial license. It would be...

Another way to Bob a Deuce!

Problem with doing it exclusively with front springs and brackets is that you have to have that from a donor truck. Pretty soon you have a bunch of donor trucks with no front axle under them. At $2000-$3000 per donor truck(unless you can find one for scrap) Hundy would be in the M-35 wrecking...

    switch from LDT to LDS

I'm not a born speller but the Sun shines on a dogs a$$ every now and again. Oh. And I have not been able to find my notes to follow up on this. Still looking.

    Hard Top Kit Inquiry

Hey Tired Iron. I usually try and buy the trucks with the hard tops.....but so does everyone else.:-D The M817 had a shreded soft top when I got it. So since I had to go to 100dollarman's place to pick up a trailer he got from Barstow, CA for me I asked him to find me a hard top. He managed...

    Epic Tire Failure

I have heard from a few of my guys that the CTIS system failures on the A3 caused a lot of 14.50 tire failures due to regular deflate inflate cycles and the trucks sitting for long periods of time on flat tires. Then when the tire reinflates and is driven it is square for a while until the tire...

M35A2 or M35A3? Pro's and Cons of each

As-built original A1's and A2's are of Kaiser and AM-General manufacture, however it is common to find rebuilds of former gas-powered REO and Studebaker models having A1 and A2 multifuel configurations. Although the A2 version is by far the most common, there are four different iterations...

    switch from LDT to LDS

Good follow up. I need to go back and look at some of my notes. There are differences in the valvetrain too. I am sure it has to do with the sodium filled valves and maybe valve springs/improved camshaft......Shoot. I need to start taking Ginkobiloba or something.

    100dollarman's 1st bobbed M35a3!

Nice!!! That's why it looked so big and bad. Now I really want to know what it would run top end. If it gets out toward Interstate speed it might make it worthwhile for me to own one. I have some friends interested in the Automatic in the truck but not if all they get is 50MPH. We gotta be able...
